Lenovo Y700-15ISK overheating

Hello Guys,

I have my Y700 with specification bellow +- 5month and it for some reason starts overheating.

Processor: Intel Core i5-6300HQ

Graphic card: Nvidia gefore 960m (is set as default for games)

I didn't have such a problems in the end of the summer, when I was playing Dead by Dayling on ultra settings. Before 3 weeks it begins overheating more and more even if the air around is much cooler then before. I tried to put the game settings on the minimum specs- still no changes.

I have my cooling pad, so the air can go out under the laptop. I even tried a fresh new instalation of windows 10, but nothing helps. I've run also the lenovo diagnostic tool, but everything seems ok.

What came to my mind was, that the dust can be inside, but after 5 months, it can't be so bad.

Re: Lenovo Y700-15ISK overheating

Hi there, Porek            -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You either need to increase the fan speeds or if nothing else slightly drop the voltage to the card. This will cause a performance loss but will prevent your card from going into a catastrophic meltdown. Also, it could be dust clean out your computer every few month.

You should check temperature graphs for your card, each card has different max save temperature at which you don't have to worry about any sort of damage and it varies with manufacturers.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Lenovo Y700-15ISK overheating

Hello Shashi,

Thank you for your reply. As my notebook is still in warranty I don't want to lose it by unlocking the bios.

Could you please advice, how to increase the fan speed or drop the voltage without loosing warranty ?

Thank you.

Best Regards

Porek

Re: Lenovo Y700-15ISK overheating

If your CPU/GPU are overheating, i'd advice checking your fans and making sure the inside of your case is clean. That way a better flow of air can come through your case. I've even managed to run this game on an old Athlon FX60 without it overheating.

Edit: I'd also recommend grabbing something like Speed Fan to keep an eye on what the temps inside your PC are and maybe pinpointing on what exactly is going on.

Update us how it goes.
