Lenovo Y700-34ISH 90DF Install a new SSD / Cable location / SATA cable

Okay so I have been looking everywhere on this forum, and I can't find how to install a second ssd/hdd into my PC. The problem I have is that I can't seem to find the cables required to plug in the drive. If anyone knows where the cables are located, please let me know, or if I have to buy cables myself.

Hi WilliamOfSweden,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You would need to buy additional cables and caddy since additional parts are not included in the package. Here is also the board location and here with the instruction manual for supplemental reference.

Similar discussion here for fellow members that have a successful upgrade to an additional storage.

One that worked ok with a fellow member is an IBM LENOVO Thinkcentre GN5008HF-BL6D104(V0) TS130 TS140 Hard Drive HD CADDY

I hope this helps answer your query.

Re: Lenovo Y700 Install a new SSD / Cable location / SATA cable

You just need a fairly standard SATA cable  similar to this one, and probably this bracket to mount the new drive.    There should already be a unused power connection on the SATA power daisy chain down by the existing HDD, but if not you can obtain one similar to this one.

You should be able to source the SATA cables locally via any good computer supply store, but the bracket (part number 00XD545you will probably have to obtain online.

If you are going to install a 2.5" SSD drive, you probably also need a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter similar to this to adapt the 2.5" drive to the above linked bracket, but again you should be able to procure that locally.

Best of luck
