Re: Lenovo Y700 freezes for 2-3 seconds while gaming

Hey, max temp on your GPU seems to be 81. That does not look like a problem for a stress test.

Is your problem CPU temp? (Can you please confirm)

 I guess so,

I know one thing, I have heat problem and some weird random freezes while in game.

Also by the testing it made it seem like it is my CPU whos making the problems...
right im going to try the bootable diagnostics by lenovo so see if it can find anything....

Try this first -

1) Install 'Intel XTU'

2) Go to Manual Tuning and see if the Multipliers and Dynamic CPU Voltage offset are enabled.

3) If enabled, post a screenshot and I can suggest values to reduce heat.

4) If not enabled, then let me know and there is another way to reduce heat without compromising much performance.

Also, I am hoping you are playing connected to AC adapter.

Ok, as much as this is interesting. It is getting a tad confusing. (due to different benchmarks)

1) Install CPUid HWMonitor and GPU-z. (or other monitoring software that will show temps for CPU and GPU)

2) Also, install FRAPS or use Steam's built in FPS counter (I find that FRAPS is better due to bigger font and clarity)

3) Run the monitoring softwares. (If using GPU-z, Select 960m for GPU in GPU-z)

4) Please play a game for 15-30 min.

5) Post back the monitoring software screenshots (once you experience a problem)

Hopefully, with these details we can nail down the problem.

Thank you for your patience.

There is a little confusion going on in this thread. 2 main points. CPU will reach 99 with the new version of prime95 small ft' stress test. It leverages a new instruction set which stomps on almost every CPU. Well above other stress tests and much further beyond even your most cpu intensive video game. The AVX instruction set may have been enabled for vermintide causing these issues. One redditor seems to think so anyway.

The gpu is reaching over 70C.. i have not seen anyone report that it can go above 70c. You might have a hardware problem. I'd have it exchanged or repaired.

If this post from systox is correct, then it just re-affirms my belief that we should never run stress tests on laptops. It rarely has any positive effects or gives real results.

The best scenario is to set up the monitoring softwares and play a game. Thanks systox for the research.

i found the reason for the stuttering in one game, the resulotion default was way smaller than my laptops

http://prntscr.com/abb0dc

anyway I started playing on extreme, went down to high and now due to this recent resaults down to medium in graphic options in Warhammer varmintide
