Lenovo Y720 80VR00H7RI - SSD Upgrade

I recently purchased a Lenovo legion Y720 80VR00H7RI. It comes with a 2TB HDD but I was wondering if I could install a SSD to speed up boot times, I know other versions of the Y720 come with a pre-installed PCIe NVME SSD but I am not sure if an upgrade is possible for my model and if so what type of SSD does it have to be (if you could point me towards specific recomended models that would be of great help). Also would installing an SSD void the warranty and are there specific services (are there any in my country, Bulgaria) where it has to be done in order to not void it.

Re: Lenovo Y720 80VR00H7RI - SSD Upgrade

Hi Samuil,

Warm Greetings & welcome to Lenovo Community, happy to have you here.

Yes, indeed M.2 SSD can be installed in this model as system as dedicated slot for it.

M.2 SSD Type - M.2 SSD / PCIe 3.0 x 4. Below are the OEM parts tested by Lenovo to work with your system:

  • Storage SSD AM6671 PCIe 256G                                                                                   01FR5001
  • Lenovo AM6671 M.2 2280 512GB PCIe LENSE20512GMSP34MEAT2TA SSD        01FR5011
  • Samsung PM981 1T M.2 2280 PCIe MZVLB1T0HALR-000L2 SSD                           01FR5101
  • Samsung PM981 512GB M.2 2280 PCIe MZVLB512HAJQ-000L2 SSD                   01FR5111
  • Samsung MZVLW1T0HMLH-000L2 M.2 1T SSD                                                          5SD0L078831
  • SS MZVLW512HMJP 512G PCIE SSD                                                                             5SD0L734431
  • SS MZVLW256HEHP 256G PCIE SSD                                                                             5SD0L734441
  • SS MZVLW128HEGR 128G PCIE SSD                                                                             5SD0L734451

Installing SSD will not void the warranty just be careful enough not cause any damage to system while doing so Smiley Very Happy .

I hope the above information helped you.
