Re: Lenovo ideapad Y700-15ACZ - M.2 SSD Upgrade

Just got a Y700 15 (model 80NV) with i7, GTX960m, 12GB and two drives:

128GB SSD (in Device Manager reported as NVMe Samsung MZ-VLV128)

1TB WDC WD10spcx (Hybrid SSHD)

Interesting to note that Device Manager also reports the presence of a Standard NVM Express Controller under storage controllers.

I think this pretty much confirms that the NVME is supported, at least on the intel based models.

Re: Lenovo ideapad Y700-15ACZ - M.2 SSD Upgrade

It works but it's a pain in the ass to get it sorted out and running correctly as a boot drive.  I thought I was going to post a guide once but realized it was going to be too difficult to write up easily in a step by step guide on here and didn't want to lead noobs to thinking they would easily be able to get it working.  I had to end up wiping all the drives and using the diskpart tool from the command prompt to manually create a boot partition on the SSD but I did get a 950 pro 512gb working and it's screaming fast... Not something I would recommend doing unless you are an IT professional with some experience figuring out command prompt tools and tinkering with bios settings - and a lot of patience.

Re: Lenovo ideapad Y700-15ACZ - M.2 SSD Upgrade

I am Spanish, I speak little English, the answers in English very simple. Thank you.
I boy Lenovo Ideapad Y700-15ISK I7-6700HQ/8GB/1TB/GTX960M/15,6". It have hdd but it don´t have hdd.
I like upgrade it with con ssd.
I'm going to do the following:
1. I go to buy samsung 950 pro ( MZ-V5P256BW), Is it compatible?
2. Open the laptot and install sdd in slot m2.
3. Power on and start windows 10. I go to Disk Management, create & format (GPT) the M.2, install the NVMe driver (950 Pro)
4. Download Magician Software and go into that and enable over-provisioning.
5. Download Data Migration Software, copy the files from hdd to sdd
6. Power off, Open laptot and disconnect the hdd.
7.Power on. The notebook beeps twice and then looks for the boot in the sdd. Run windows 10.
8.Open laptoot and connect hdd. Run windows 10. Format HDD.
Is Correct?

Yes looks correct. I still would suggest a clean install of windows for the 950 pro, would also suggest going with the 960 pro or even 960 evo if it is out yet.

Do you know if Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD PCIe  (512 GB ) can be used under Windows 7 as a boot drive ? I have already replaced my 2.5" HDD with 2.5" Samsung 850 EVO SSD(512 GB)

If your using a 256GB 950 pro- this is what you should get in terms os speed. Anand Tech shows 2,200MB/s Read, & 900MB/s Write and so does Samsung, so your performance is on par with what it should be.The 512GB is 2500/1500, Regards Aldo493 PS, the 960 Pro up to 3500/2100 R/W speed.
