Lenovo legion y520 ram upgrade warranty question

I have a question regarding ram upgrade. My laptop is under warranty I want to upgrade ram when I call service center they are telling huge price for 16 gb ram 13k rupess whouch is around 180 USD. Can I purchase it in amazon and upgrade that ram but taking it to lenovo service center? will it void warranty if I purchase ram from non official store?

Re: Lenovo legion y520 ram upgrade warranty question

Hi Nani1232,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

In general, upgrades should not void the warranty as long as there won't be any affected parts during and after the process. This may appear dependent on your region specially if the part like the memory is an FRU (field replaceable unit / may require certified tech to perform).

For US and Canada, users are allowed to upgrade and it is not limited to the OEM parts having advised to match the specification as suggested by OEM. Users are asked to keep the original parts handy as it is asked to be placed back when availing in-warranty service. The hardware manual is available for users for the guided instructions.

On this post from Romania and here from Turkey have reported by fellow members differently. To this effect I suggest that you check back with technical support in India first to confirm.

I hope this helps answer your query.
