Lenovo y520-15IKBN BIOS update 4KCN41WW Failed

2018-04-17, 4:49 AM

I received notification The "System Update" function in Lenovo Vantage shows "BIOS update - 10 [64] V.4KCN41WW" but will not install it. The resulting message is "Failed installed.  The lenovo support site auto detected my system and allowed me to download manually.  I installed it and now my system blue screens.  Can't find boot device.

When you install a new version of the BIOS, the current BIOS settings are NOT preserved. You need to enter the BIOS and change the relevant settings to their previous values. You can enter the BIOS by starting the system using the "Novo" button; you don't need to start Windows in order to enter the BIOS.

Consult your "User Guide" or "Hardware Maintenance Manual" to find where the "Novo" button is located. In recent systems it is concealed beneath the casing, and you press it by inserting the end of a straightened paper clip (or similar) into the correct hole.

Corretion on the stop error, inaccessable boot device.  Afterwards, the laptop reboots then loads the automatic repair.

I can access the bios without the NOVO button and have tried loading default and windows optimized defaults but the problem still persists. What relevant settings are you referring to?

Questions...

Is there a recommended bios setting i can try?

Can the bios be reverted to a previous version?

I am not familiar with your laptop model, but check the following:

(1) If the BIOS has a "Disk Adapter" setting (or similar), try changing it to the other value (e.g. change "Intel RST" to "AHCI", or vice versa).

(2) Check that the disk containing the operating system is first in the list of boot devices.

(3) Try changing "Boot Mode" to "Legacy Support".
