Re: Lenovo y530 heat

Hello. I'm wondering can I change thermal pads to reduce heat( I suppose in photo pointed things are thermal pads? )?

Can I change those pads with this: THERMAL GRIZZLY MINUS PAD 8 120 X 20. And 120 x 20 would be enough to all of those pads to change(all stock thermal pads are 0.5mm thickness)? P.S it is not my heatsink just photo from internet but it looks the same as mine.

Hi Mahomie,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

In general, upgrades on the original parts should are allowed as long as there are no damage to other parts during and after upgrades.

The warranty aggreement may differ from each location. It would be better to call in tech support first before any changes made to ensure that warranty is kept.

Re: Lenovo y530 heat

I never tried after market thermal pads, but personal I used Arctic silver 5 and I got great results. I think whatever solution you use, it will be better than the standard stock pads that the laptop came with.

Re: Lenovo y530 heat

Those are thermal pads for the caps and you can just keep them where they are and don't replace them. You aren't going to see a difference because they don't have thermal sensors and they don't generate as significant amount of heat as the main chips

Re: Lenovo y530 heat

Hi All,

Greetings.

I believe that it was also previously discussed about the thermal augmentations that can be tried on the machine.

I would also suggest to get hold of technical support specially for warranty concerns. If there is a reason why thermal pads would be needed aside from a good thermal paste then tech support may need to be concerned with it.

Regards

Re: Lenovo y530 heat

Yes we did but after I changed my thermal paste I don't see very big difference in temps. Only undervolting helps a lot. But I already undervolted -350 on core and -150 on cache and still after 1hours of playing temps goes to 80~

Re: Lenovo y530 heat

1 hour 80+? You are lucky, I am 15 minutes in the air-conditioned room. 1 hour I can already cook eggs.
