Lenovo y700 screen doesn't wake up from sleep

Hello,

I have a lenovo y700 on Windows 10 and when I put my laptop to sleep, I am able to turn it back on. But sometimes the screen stays black and the keyboard lights are on. Such that the computer did start up but the screen doesn't want to.

The only way I am able to fix this is buy putting the computer to sleep multiple times and then wake it up back again and after once or twice it starts to work. The solution (fool-proof) is to hold the power button to shut it down and then start it up again.

I bought this laptop a week ago and (yes) I updated all my drivers(including NVIDA GPU) and windows updates. I also don't have that many background apps running.

Here are my specs:
Lenovo Ideapad Y700-15 Laptop - 80NV005FUS

  • Processor - 6th Generation Intel Core i7-6700HQ (2.60GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
  • Operating System - Windows 10 Home 64
  • Memory - 16.0GB PC4-17000 DDR4 2133 MHz
  • Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB
  • Hard Drive - 1TB 5400 RPM+128GB SSD

Thanks for your time, cheers

Re: Lenovo y700 screen doesn't wake up from sleep

Hi bouga ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Checking on the support site for   Notebook IP Y700-15ISK I7 , seems no BIOS update needed for this model.

Typically even on Win Vista and Windows 7 that issue with sleep has been related to hybrid features.

Method 1 : You may try to disable it using the cmd elevated for the command  powercfg -h off .

Check on this video link for the guide steps

Method 2 : Setting Power option to High Performance instead of conservation mode . then manualy setting sleep on the start icon

Continue to apply neccessary updates that may correct this issue but for the time being , you can use Method 2 as alternate solution if method 1 fail to correct it.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Re: Lenovo y700 screen doesn't wake up from sleep

method 1 gave me an error saying

An unexpected error (0x65b) has occurred:  Function failed during execution.

I think that hybrid sleep is turned off tho in the power options.

Also, sometimes my computer acts as if the crtl button is pressed. And i have to sleep the computer in order to fix that issue

Plus the poweroption is always high performance. Thanks

Re: Lenovo y700 screen doesn't wake up from sleep

Hi bouga  ,

Greetings.

Would you set BIOS to default .

Turn off the pc and use the Novo key (item 5 page 6) to lauch novo menu and choose BIOS set up.

Exit tab would offer load optimal defaults then save and exit then restart .

Uninstall Energy Manager on Programs and Features and download updated version from support site including Lenovo Utility for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Notebook  driver.

Would the problem be the same after removing the Energy Manager?

Would it be the same even if your antivirus is disabled.

Within windows , you can try to check for system file integrity using sfc /scannow on elevated CMD  .

Last option to isolate the software from the hardware is factory reset using One key recovery .

If same issue then best to call in support for probable repair service .

Lets see how it goes.

Regards

Re: Lenovo y700 screen doesn't wake up from sleep

Thank you for the support,

So far I don't face any problems. Reseting the bios to default must have done the trick.  If the problem comes back I'll be sure to keep you posted .

Re: Lenovo y700 screen doesn't wake up from sleep

Sorry, the problem is back again. But I understood something about it a bit more.

So all the above solutions didn't work. But I discovered that when the screen problem happens, I solve the porblem put my computer back to sleep again by closing the lid and not by hitting the FN+F2 shortcut to put it to sleep.

It seems that closing the lid works better.  But it doesn't mean that closing the lid does not cause the problem from coming back again. ( when the computer is working fine)

So am afraid we have to look into this problem another way.

I have run diagnostic tests and hardware scans from both cfc (at command prompt cmd) and lenovo solution centre and they both came with no errors.

Re: Lenovo y700 screen doesn't wake up from sleep

Hi bouga ,

Great that mechanically the sensor lid was able to do the job .

Most of the failed on wake as I have noticed on windows 10 goes as software / OS based triggered.

Either power option linked to other software utility controls or hybrid sleep that needs to be disabled.

On the BIOS level however  ErP  would allow modern pc to limit power on lower voltage .

If ErP is enabled , wake using keyboard , mouse , wireless signal are limited .

The solution that we have now is more of mechanically directed .

We may need to further observe as Microsoft would still be doing series of update soon this upcoming months .

Please feel free to check on our community forums for any updates regarding this matter .

Regards

Re: Lenovo y700 screen doesn't wake up from sleep

A service tip is going to be released regarding some Y700 systems which do not wake from sleep, I expect the document to be available to view, some time in the next week, at https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/sf16-i0012

Affected Systems; Y700-15ISK, Y700 Touch-15ISK, Y700-17ISK  Systems are configured with Intel Skylake & Windows 10

Symptom;  The notebook will not resume from S3 (Sleep mode) or the MEI driver is lost or may display a Yellow Bang error or blank screen.  The system may also automatically reboot after resuming from S3 (Sleep mode).

Solution; Download the Realtek Audio driver for Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit) version 6.0.1.7780 and download the latest BIOS version 30, or newer, for this system at the following URL below:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/IdeaPad-Y-Series-laptops/y700-touch-15...

Additional Information; The Y700 15ISK, Y700 Touch 15 ISK, and Y700 17ISK models require the Realtek Audio driver version 6.0.1.7780 and the BIOS to be updated to version 30, or newer, at the time of service.
