M.2 SSD Upgrade options for Ideapad Y700-15ISK

Just bought Y700-15ISK and need to upgrade the M.2 SSD. Before I buy one, can somebody confirm if one of these work?

Exact model or purchase link will be appreciated Smiley Happy

I live in a country where nobody's selling them so I'll have to get it shipped from another country and returning if it doesn't work could be an issue.

Thanks

Re: M.2 SSD Upgrade options for Ideapad Y700-15ISK

Hi basitj ,

Greetings.

For the Machine Number : 80NV005FUS

Options for upgrade of the M.2 SSD Samsung MZNLN128HCGR-000L2 128GB as follows:

(based on the parts listing manual -no.12 page 28))

Part number 5SD0H00094 SAMSUNG MZNLN128HCGR M.2
Part number 5SD0H00092 SSD, Samsung MZNLN256HCHP M.2 256GB
Part number 5SD0J21061 SSD Liteon CV1-8B256 256GB M.2 SSD
Part number 5SD0H00095 SSD Samsung MZNLN512HCJH M.2 512GB
Part number 5SD0J21063 SSD Liteon CV1-8B512 512GB M.2 SSD

(may not provide a PCIE speed but with regular M.2 as per this thread
Part number 5SD0J46479 SSD, Samsung MZVLV256HCHP 256GB M.2 PCIE SSD
Part number 5SD0J46481 SSD, Samsung MZVLV512HCJH 512GB M.2 PCIE SSD

For OEM pc best to be in contact with Lenovo Part Sales for pricing , availability and shipping in your location.

They would be best to answer about shipping and sales query .

Else trusted resellers can be another option. Sorry that I cannot be specific on a brand or link since there would be a related importing code restriction.  You may search using the Lenovo part number or  Manufacturer code

Hope this helps.

Regards

Re: M.2 SSD Upgrade options for Ideapad Y700-15ISK

Are you sure Part number 5SD0J46481 SSD, Samsung MZVLV512HCJH 512GB M.2 PCIE SSD will even fit the slot? As the M.2 SSD in my system has 2 cuts on the connector, while the part mentioned above has only 1 cut.

I'm tempted to get it even if it doesn't give PCIE speed yet, I can use it somewhere else later for higher speeds.

I'll get it shipped to a friend who could carry it for me from a uk or us, that's not an issue.

Re: M.2 SSD Upgrade options for Ideapad Y700-15ISK

Hi basitj  ,

I agree that it's really tempting to get that same PCIE speed for the upgrade and use it other pc offering same PCIE features not only on the same pc .

It would fit as looking on the slot offered with the B and M key as per this thread where they tried a similar slot  using Samsung SM951 512 GB AHCI  . It fits ok but is not detected and a community member that tried it.

It may be that the one on the HMM list  5SD0J46481 PCIE is meant for a different model.

BMkeySSD.PNG

This leaves us with  :

Part number 5SD0H00095 SSD Samsung MZNLN512HCJH M.2 512GB  similar to this

Hope this provided you enough information to answer your query .

Regards

Re: M.2 SSD Upgrade options for Ideapad Y700-15ISK

Whoa!

I was about to order MZVLV256HCHP   512GB

So you want me to play safe and get one of the option from the manual, that is MZNLN512HCJH

If we are looking at forums, this fellow succeeded in getting Samsung SM951 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD MZHPV512HDGL-00000 to work on Y700 (don't know which model y700 he has). See this.

Do you think it's safe to take it as a success story?

Re: M.2 SSD Upgrade options for Ideapad Y700-15ISK

Hi basitj ,

Greetings.

Based on the thread , we have to guys successful with mzvpv256hdgl-00000  but have reported boot issue on one.

We are not sure of MZHPV512HDGL-00000 unverified yet.

It would be ordered afar  so try to think for a backup plan for possible returns just in case. Hoping that your friend would be able to do so if he would be going back.

Technically , I can only provide info based on OEM IPbook , since I don't have your model to test with.

Maybe you can get a local shop or IT group to check M.2 PCIE detection and same goes on the RAM upgrade beyond OEM max  16 GB. So that we would be confident on deciding.

Take your time to review your options too.

Regards

Re: M.2 SSD Upgrade options for Ideapad Y700-15ISK

Great, sounds like we are good with 5SD0H00095 SSD Samsung MZNLN512HCJH M.2 512GB  then.

I can't delay things further as 128gb is too small for me to live with right now. Will get it rolling.

I can wait till my local stores have larger rams that they can try on my pc before i buy, can wait for that.

Just a final confirmation, you (or your colleagues) have tested 5SD0H00095 SSD Samsung MZNLN512HCJH M.2 512GB on this laptop right? I have minimum chances of returning it  back? <hope this recommendation is not based on some forum post as well>

Re: M.2 SSD Upgrade options for Ideapad Y700-15ISK

Hi basitj  ,

The choice for a MZNLN512HCJH M.2 512GB is based on the system  released IPbook  and not from post ,

Personally I haven't tested it myself but it was the one offered by the hardware FRU listing for the model.

The ones posted by users on this thread  shows that they manage to upgrade (its a long one )

" Parkerslake : Samsung 950 Pro 256 M.2 SSD drive
Marcus1571 : 512GB, and even though it is using the PCIe bus I can confirm that it does work and the benchmark in read is 1440 MB/s. Samsung SM951 512GB AHCI MZHPV512HDGL-00000 M.2 80mm PCIe 3.0 x4 SSD - OEM
matrox00612 : Samsung SM951 256GB NVMe MZVPV256HDGL   Kingston Technology HyperX Impact 16GB RAM DDR4 2133 HX421S13IBK2/16 "

This are from other members of the community sharing saying was able to work with a PCIE m.2 and other just M.2 sata . As compared to other post .

It would be your decisions on the upgrade , OEM would provide probable options on the model based on the ipbook  released. Members post their shares of experience. Either play it safe or decide on other options.

Responsibility on upgrade is up to the users since what hold under warranty is the OEM original parts.

I don't want you to get confused on your decision .

As for me I usually have to test it myself before purchasing especially since returns would be hard on your situation. Best not to rush on matters and review other user threads .

Update us on how things goes for you.

Regards
