Re:Why is my memory COMPLETELY different compared to reviewers?

2021-06-24, 17:06 PM

Tbh, this has been my gripe with Lenovo for over a decade now and I have seen little improvement.

These machines aren't meant for enthusiasts, they are meant for daily use, productivity, gaming but without going into too much user controlled OC.

I'd say don't get your hopes up, I've sent feedback after feedback. Imagine Lenovo laptops had everything locked even in 2015, you couldn't overclock anything.

Lenovo have a great price performance ratio but there comes a line where trade offs needs to be made and I suppose this is where we're at for now.

Hello @rickje149,

Sorry for the late reply.

The Memory overclock option is set to unavailable not because the RAM currently on the machine is not XMP compatible.

But because the option is not made available for these machines. This is because the laptops usually come out of the factory with already the best performance tested for the machine.

The performance is not the best out of the factory.

If you are capable of enabling XMP, the performance could jump up by so much on AMD systems.

Infact by simply buying a new memory kit with a jedec specified cl20 latency, you can already improve the performance yourself.

Even by upgrading to a jedec specified CL20 ram kit it has improved someone's score by 100 points from 5300 to 5400 in a benchmark.

his 1% & 99% lows + average were also improved due to the lower TRFC in game benchmarks.

If the memory OC would actually do something instead of being in the bios and always saying unavailable, we could massively improve our performance and the laptop would be one of the best out there in the entire notebook market.

Memory compatibility & stability has been improved by so much compared to a long time ago, there isn't a lot that can go wrong anymore nowadays.

Here's the proof for the actual performance boost by just a memory upgrade:

You can clearly see how much the cpu is being bottlenecked by the ram.

Is it possible the request for XMP could get forwarded to the engineers behind the bios, it can seriously improve the performance by even more than just this.

Memory OC does not detect A-XMP enabled ram Lenovo Legion 7 16achg6 (2021)

2021-07-05, 19:05 PM

I have changed my ram with a XMP-enable ram kit and the Memory OC option did not change to Available, even though my ram kit is XMP-enabled.

I bought this ram kit because i saw this Memory OC option https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/bl2k16g32c16s4b

Could the functionality of the Memory OC get resolved as soon as possible? I have bought this ram kit for 200 euro.

Hello @rickje149,

Thanks for reaching out.

I believe this has already been answered in a previous discussion: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Laptops/Why-is-my-memory-COMPLETELY-different-compared-to-reviewers/m-p/5085266?page=1#5365289

I was told that this laptop model has XMP functionality on twitter.

The Memory OC label shouldn't be there for absolutely no reason so it most likely is a broken feature.

So the laptop has XMP-capabilities, but it doesn't seem to detect the ram correctly.

Re:Memory OC unavailable in bios? Lenovo legion 7 (2021)

hi, were you able to fix this problem, or XMP and advanced BIOS settings are also not available? If so, then I will not buy this laptop, it's good that I stumbled upon this forum!

The advanced bios has not been found as of now and the memory OC in the bios still does absolutely nothing.

So i dont think they want to open up the XMP option to the public which is insane because AMD processors heavily rely on ram latency.

It will make programs load so much slower than my desktop.
