Need Dolby Vision HDR reinstall on Lenovo Y740

2019-08-30, 7:51 AM

My laptop (Legion Y740 17") came with Dolby Vision HDR app on Windows 10. I accidentally uninstalled it. Is there any way to recover or reinstall this app?

Thanks.

Hi Sparker0i!

Try installing the UI driver here from this link https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds506145

Hope this helps answer your query. Apologies for the delayed response.

Regards,

You can download it from the Microsoft Store. Here's the link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/dolby-vision/9mvmz93n61t9?activetab=pivot:overviewtab

Re:Need Dolby Vision HDR reinstall on Lenovo Y740

Sorry to revive this but I can't even get Dolby Vision working on my Y740, did you? If I try to play a Vision enabled Netflix title I get a black screen with no video that says "Dolby vision playback is not authorized on this computer Please uninstall Dolby Vision to remove this message". In the Dolby Vision app it's also locked to the "Dolby Vision" setting in the drop down. My machine also has Use HDR and WCG apps in the windows settings set to no and Stream HDR set to yes even though it should be fully HDR enabled. HDR works fine on YouTube in Edge, but Dolby Vision won't kick in on Netflix. I have the highest plan that allows for UHD as well. Any ideas? There's seemingly no reason it wouldn't work, I'm a little desperate. Thanks a bunch.

Well Nope. It did install Dolby Vision app but that's it. Netflix doesn't recognize my Dolby Vision installation at all. It only shows Dolby Vision and HD. No HDR. How did you even manage to get that black screen message? You say HDR kicked in on Edge. Is this the old Edge Browser or the new one which looks a lot like Chrome?

Re:Need Dolby Vision HDR reinstall on Lenovo Y740

I have no idea how I got that error. I know there's HEVC drivers (pictured #4) from the Microsoft Store that are supposed to fix it, but they don't for me. I had the error before I installed them so I'm not sure. I also know that changing your color profile for the monitor can fix it (maybe) but I have no idea how to get that or how it works. (link below)

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile-Workstations/P1-Gen2-Dolby-Vision-Broken/m-p/4552693?page=1

My windows HDR settings say I cant use HDR aside from streaming, (pictured #5) which is weird because it should be enabled.

Using HDR in Edge (pictured #6) is different than Dolby Vision so it makes sense that I can do that because it's the one thing that's not blocked and is enabled in my settings. But I don't understand why I can't use Dolby Vision (or other HDR or WCG services in apps) on a computer that should have it enabled.

Below are images to all the things I'm talking about, and you asked about, and more.

As follows:

1.) Dolby Vision enabled show

2.) Dolby Vision error message for the show (excuse poor quality, wouldn't let me screenshot)

3.) Dolby Vision application locked in picture mode

4.) [small image] The HEVC drivers that Netflix supposedly needs

5.) Windows HDR settings

6.) Working HDR in Edge

Thanks for responding. I've seen no recent activity around this issue.

How did you get #4 installed? And that's the old Edge browser (not the new one which looks like Chrome).

HDR isnt kicking in, in the new Edge browser. Can you try and install Edge Beta (this wont remove the old Edge) and see whether Youtube HDR kicks in or not?

Here is the link for the HEVC drivers. Turns out you need a link for the free version, but the paid one shows up just fine in the Store, figures. Even though it allows for high quality video it seems like it's more for the Movies and TV app than anything else. Although I did read that it was needed for Vision too, who knows.

HDR doesn't seem to be working in the new Edge (attached), but works in the old.
