PC sleeps even though sleep setting was disabled

My laptop is lenovo legion 5i pro 2023, the power setting in Windows 11 is always set to "never" when plugged in. Recently, I don't know why the laptop still always sleep after idle for a while (maybe 20-30 minutes).

I went to command prompt and typed "powercgf /a", refer to my attached screenshot, it said "hibernate" and "fast startup" under Standby (S3), may I know how I can fix this issue and let my laptop alway awake? Thanks.

Greetings, hkchess2000!

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue. It seems like your laptop might be going into hibernation or fast startup mode even though you've set it to never sleep.

You can try the following method and check if it will fix the issue:

Re:PC sleeps even though sleep setting was disabled

Well, only do the hibernate off command from command prompt if you never want to hibernate.  I prefer this over sleeping (which Windows sucks at).

However, it is correct that there is a hibernate option inside the power settings which overrides all else.  You can just set this to "never".

May I know how to disable fast startup? Thanks.

I clicked above link --> detect product --> prompted "This content is not compatible with the product you selected (Legion Pro 5 16IRX8 - Type 82WK. Serial Number:********). Click here to navigate to the Legion Pro 5 16IRX8 - Type 82WK. Serial Number:******** product support page, or select a different serial number or product. or Browse Product"

Re:PC sleeps even though sleep setting was disabled

I apologize for the confusion. To disable Fast Startup, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  2. Click on System and Security.
  3. Click on Power Options.
  4. On the left pane, click on Choose what the power buttons do.
  5. Click on Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  6. Under Shutdown settings, uncheck the box that says Turn on fast startup (recommended).
  7. Click on "Save changes".

Please note that you might need to log in as an administrator to make these changes.

Best regards,

Hector_Lenovo

While I follow above step #6 above, there is no box says "turn on fast start up" (refer to attached screenshot), may I know what can I do? Thanks.

Re:PC sleeps even though sleep setting was disabled

Please have a look to my already "disabled fast startup" setting:

As you can see, you have to go to a different Windows dialog box and to deal with the two yellow highlighted items.

Thanks for your sharing, however there is no such checkbox "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" under Shutdown settings.

Re:PC sleeps even though sleep setting was disabled

If the "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" option is not available under Shutdown settings, it could be due to a number of reasons. One possibility is that the hibernation mode is disabled on your computer, as the Fast Startup feature requires hibernation to be enabled.

You can check if hibernation is enabled by typing "powercfg /a" into the Command Prompt. If hibernation is not available, you can enable it by typing powercfg /h on into the Command Prompt as an administrator. If it's the same, turn hibernate off again using the powercfg /h on command.

Hi, just to keep you posted that my issue was settled after I completed step 1 to 5. I don't know why it is no need for my to complete step 6 and 7. My power setting screen seems reset after step 5, then I simply set it to "never" and that's works. Thanks for everyone's help.
