Problem with the laptop charger

2021-04-07, 11:36 AM

"The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended AC adapter which was shipped with the system. To use AC power, please connect the AC adapter which was shipped with the system. Press Esc to continue."

If I press Esc, the laptop works, but it doesn't charge, despite the light bulb showing it is charging. And the laptop also closes because the battery is empty.

This happened after I brought it to someone so they could fix it.

Does anyone know what do I do to fix it?

Welcome to the forum.

1. Are you using the AC charger that was originally shipped with the computer?

2. What is the part number (FRU) of the charger?

3. What is the model number of your computer?

If I press Esc, the laptop works, but it doesn't charge, despite the light bulb showing it is charging. And the laptop also closes because the battery is empty.

This indicates that the charger is not delivering enough power to operate the computer and recharge the battery at the same time.

This happened after I brought it to someone so they could fix it.

Did they return the correct charger? Perhaps your charger got swapped with a lower power one.

Thanks for the welcome! 1. Yes, it is the same one. It seems that the laptop indeed charges, but only when it is closed, so I think you are right. Yes, they did return the same charger. Sorry for the late reply.

2. This is a 135W AC charger.

3. It seems that you posted the serial number. I suggest that you edit it out of your post because it can be misused. However that serial number did let me look up your model, Legion Y530-15ICH Laptop (Lenovo) - Type 81FV. According to PSREF Legion Lenovo Legion Y530-15ICH it came with either a 135W or 170W charger.

It's possible that your system needs a 170W charger. Does the battery recharge if your computer is shutdown? If so, that would indicate that the 135W charger isn't powerful enough for your configuration.

The battery does recharge if the computer is shutdown.

The charger is 135W
