Reduce TDP to save battery

2021-01-12, 6:35 AM

I have Lenovo Legion 5 AMD Ryzen 7 Laptop. It has Ryzen 7 4800H processor.

It's default TDP is 45W. I checked on the AMD website and found configurable TDP between 35W- 54W.

Can we reduce TDP beyond 35W. I want to increase my battery life.

Will Reducing TDP beyond 35W damage my processor?

Hi,

Reducing TDP will never damage anything but it will reduce performance in CPU-intensive tasks.
AMD doesn't support mobiles CPU in his official Ryzen Master Utility, but you can try https://www.ryzencontroller.com/
As long as you don't increase the TDP and voltage there is no risk of damaging the laptop.
