Removing the back cover of Legion Y530

I need to install my old HDD into the laptop but it doesn't seem easy to "pry" the back cover out after removing all the screws, even with a tool like a credit card. Does anyone have any tips for doing this? I don't feel like damaging the back cover of a brand new laptop. Smiley Sad

Re: Removing the back cover of Legion Y530

I did this recently. Indeed, it's a bit scary.

Remove all the screws on the back, then use a plastic prying tool to carefully pry from the front center, moving towards the outside.

As you reach the midpoint (where the side I/O is), carefully pry the side plastic out to release the side clips. As you move slowly towards the back, it should finally pop off.

When reassembling, do the same in reverse. You may need to check the clips have all reattached, otherwise it could warp over time.

Tap that kudos button if I helped ^^

Re: Removing the back cover of Legion Y530

Thank you for the help guys! I've finally managed opened the back cover but it took me a long time. The I/O side was indeed the hard part...phew.

Managed to install the hdd as well and when its time to put the cover back, it didn't fit. Then I realized the hdd might not be the right size(its 9.5mm)!

So correct me if I'm wrong, the y530 can only accept 7mm disks?

Re: Removing the back cover of Legion Y530

I'm also interesting in this question. So why do you want to insert a new hdd? You setuping it because you did not have  hdd(SATA 3) when you bought it  or you are removing old with new one? Why I'm asking this because I bought Legion Y530 with only M.2 Nvme(SSD) and also would like to upgrade it with one more hdd. I dissambled it and found place for it(near m.2) but I need and a hdd cable to connect extra hdd, which not present on laptop...

Re: Removing the back cover of Legion Y530

I've customized it so it only came with the 250gb ssd and I wanted to reuse my old hdd from my old laptop. Yes the cable and the extra screws did come in a small plastic wrapper. Did you not find any when you unboxed it?

No, I did not. Or my seller forgot put it in my laptop box or it was not put by Lenovo at manufacturer. Otherwise, thanks for reply. Interesting is this cable was available in box for someone else?

Since you opened it, did your laptop warranty lost?

Nope, not at all! Opening the cover does not void warranty.
