SSD Upgrade for Legion 5 15IMH05H

2021-01-11, 14:48 PM

Hello,

as a gamer, shortly after i bought this laptop, Lenovo Legion 5 15IMH05H, i had ran out of space and having a spare 2.5 inch SSD i opened the laptop to install it after consulting some sites saying that the laptop has a 2.5 inch slot and a PCIe slot that cannot be used simultaneous. When i opened the laptop up, i couldn't find the 2.5 inch SSD slot, reason being in the place where it showed up on the internet, there is the battery, longer than the ones i had seen in videos, but still, i found the PCIe slot.

So is there a 2.5 inch slot in my laptop or not?

If you need any info please don't hesitate to contact.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Here are the configurations you can have for the storage (pulled from PSREF): 1x 2.5" HDD + 1x M.2 2242 SSD, 1x 2.5" HDD + 1x M.2 2280 SSD, or 2x M.2 2280 SSD.

There is a 2.5" SATA slot, refer to page 36 of the hardware manual: http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/legion_5_15_hmm_202004.pdf

Hope that helps

Regards,
Eric Xu

Here’s a photo of where the 2.5” slot should be and there’s only a M.2 Slot

I see.

Your model has the larger battery so that 2.5" slot is not available.  There should be two M.2 slots available that you can use together.

FYI: Take a look at page 34 for the other M.2 slot (and page 51 for the one in your photo): https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/legion_5_15_hmm_202004.pdf
