Legion 5 pro: Testing loading times, quite mode bugged?

2021-04-23, 16:16 PM

My spec:

LENOVO LEGION 5 PRO 16ACH6H - 82JQ0096MX (my product version)

CPU: 5800H

GPU: RTX 3070 - 8GB

16gb - 3200 mhz

1 TB SSD - wdc sn730

So I did 3dmark time spy test in all 3 modes: quite, balanced and performance.

I noticed the loading time for quite mode is absolutely horrifical and was wondering if it is a bug or its intended? When I noticed the long loading time with time spy in quite mode I wanted to test loading time with a game.

So I tested the loading times for Heroes of the storm:

quite mode: 1min 48 sec
balanced mode: 33 sec
performance mode: 30sec

So by comparing the quite mode result for 3dmark time spy and looking at the loading times - it makes no sense it takes so long in quite mode?  The CPU scorer is close in all 3 modes. So what is actually happening in quite mode that makes the loading time so high compared to the other modes? Something crippling the SSD maybe ?

this is my theory:

quite mode: 105 watt GPU <--- I'm guessing here compared to the time spy results in the different modes.

balanced mode: 125 watt GPU

performance mode: 140 watt GPU

Hello @Nazzz,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Quiet mode is achieved by setting the machine to low performance.

Once you are in quiet mode it is expected that performance will be much worse than when you were in performance mode.

Hope this helps.

Hi, add some 100/100 in the BIOS overclocking to get more performance in all modes.

This is stable, i tried 150/300 but that was unstable,

RTX 3070, 32GB (stock Memory)

Silent Mode:

Balance Mode:

Performance Mode:

Greetings

how do you even enter/unlock advanced mode in bios? I was planning upgrading to 32gb ram with better timings but I couldn't find anywhere I could load xmp profile or change timings.

Hallo

The Legion doesn't support XMP timings.

Make sure that your DDR4 RAM has a 3200 timing at 1,2 Volt.

I replaced the stock RAM with Crucial RAM but didn't get better performance, so i sent the RAM back and am using the 32GB stock RAM.

Here are the BIOS settings

Hello @Nazzz,

Thanks for writing back.

Our machines are already pre configured from the factory to perform at peak performance.

XMP is unfortunately not a feature added to this machine.
