I own a Legion Y520. In the manual it says that before I ship my laptop to send it in service I have to put it in "Travel Mode" by pressing Fn+S+V, in order to cut the power supply from the battery. However, it does not seem to work. It says that in order to start my laptop again, i have to connect the power adapter, but by pressing the power button it starts.
The thing is: am I required to enter this "travel mode" in order to install an ssd or even upgrade my ram? I'm just paranoid about frying components, even though the voltage may not be high enough to do that.

Welcome to the Community Forums.
You may simply proceed to shut down the machine and unplug the ac charger.
From the safety manual (page 3):
Then wait three to five minutes to let the computer cool before opening the cover.
Observe the basic guidelines for replacing FRU here (page 31) then follow the steps described from the hardware manual (after removing the cover, disconnect the battery from the board and press the power button for 12 seconds to drain remaining flea power).
Now you can proceed with your upgrade.
Hope this helps answer your query.
