USB-C port is entirely non-funtional. (USB-C port stopped working)

I am using a Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9, It was purchased in November of 2024. I have recently installed a secondary PCIe drive (SAMSUNG 970 EVO 1TB). After rebooting the laptop and ensuring everything functions correctly, the right side USB-C port does not work at all. I have tried to use the following devices on it: 1x Steelseries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless adapter, 1x SANDISK EXTREME 512GB Ext. SSD. 1x SAMSUNG GALAXY S22. The headset adapter does not funtion nor receive power; the SSD does not show up in Explorer ( No PWR Indicator) The Phone does not begin charging or offer any data functions.

ALL FIRMWARE IS UP TO DATE. WINDOWS IS UP TO DATE. NVIDIA DRIVERS ARE UP TO DATE. Vantage has been checked for pending updates and has stated the computer is up to date. I have attemped power draining ( Turn off laptop, unplug external PSU/charger, depress power button for 60 seconds, turn back on and reconnect to power) and it has not worked. I am looking to restore full functionality to the USB port, as i primarily use it for my headset, any tips would be helpful, thank you.

Re:USB-C port is entirely non-funtional. (USB-C port stopped working)

Hi abc123id,

Thank you for reaching out and providing detailed information about your issue. I understand how important it is to have all ports functioning correctly, especially for your headset. Let's try a few steps to troubleshoot the USB-C port on your Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9:

  1. Check Device Manager:

    • Open Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu).
    • Look for any devices with a yellow exclamation mark under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" or "Other devices."
    • If you find any, right-click and select "Update driver" or "Uninstall device" and then restart your laptop.
  2. BIOS Update:

    • Ensure your BIOS is up to date. Sometimes, hardware issues can be resolved with a BIOS update.
    • You can find the latest BIOS update for your model on the Lenovo Support Website.
  3. Reset BIOS Settings:

    • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2 or Delete during startup).
    • Look for an option to reset to default settings and save changes.
    • Restart your laptop and check the USB-C port again.
  4. Check Power Settings:

    • Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
    • Click on "Change plan settings" next to your selected power plan.
    • Click on "Change advanced power settings."
    • Expand "USB settings" and then "USB selective suspend setting."
    • Disable the USB selective suspend setting and click OK.
  5. Test in Safe Mode:

    • Boot your laptop into Safe Mode and check if the USB-C port works.
    • If it works in Safe Mode, there might be a software conflict causing the issue.
  6. Hardware Diagnostics:

    • Run Lenovo's hardware diagnostics tool to check for any hardware issues.
    • You can access this through the Lenovo Vantage app or by visiting the Lenovo Support Website.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,
Hassen_Lenovo

Re:USB-C port is entirely non-funtional. (USB-C port stopped working)

Greetings Hassen, Unfortunately, Device Manager showed no problematic USB controllers. The BIOS is up-to-date. Bios settings reset did not have any results, as the laptop still fails both to communicate or charge via USB-C. Power settings failed to resolve the issue, as selective suspend is disabled both for battery and plug-in modes. Unfortunately, microsoft did not allow me to sign in to safe mode, however no USB connect sound was heard while in safe mode. Hardware diagnostics yielded a full pass on all systems, including USB, however the USB-C port still remains non-functional.

Re:USB-C port is entirely non-funtional. (USB-C port stopped working)

Hi abc123id,

Thank you for your detailed follow-up. Since you've already tried several troubleshooting steps, let's explore a few more advanced options. First, inspect the USB-C port for any visible damage or debris, as dust or physical damage can cause connectivity issues. Next, consider reinstalling the USB drivers—even if Device Manager didn't show any issues. Open Device Manager, expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers," right-click each USB device, and select "Uninstall device." Then restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers. If the issue started after a recent change, performing a system restore to a point before the problem began might help; search for "Create a restore point" in the Start menu and follow the prompts. Lastly, check for any conflicting third-party software by uninstalling any recently installed applications that could interfere with hardware functionality. Let me know if these steps help!

Re:USB-C port is entirely non-funtional. (USB-C port stopped working)

Hello, The USB-C port seems visibly intact with all traces/contacts visible and free of dust/debris. I tried the uninstallation of all drivers under the USB Controller category via the Device manager, including a composite device, a root host, and the 3.20 Microsoft controller. after these elements were reinstalled, the port was still nonfunctional. I attempted restoring via the restore point as suggested, however was not able to make use of the USB-C port, as it is still not working. Data communication and charging functionality of the USB-C port still remain unavailable.

Thank you for your continued assistance.

Re:USB-C port is entirely non-funtional. (USB-C port stopped working)

Hi abc123id,

Thank you for your patience and detailed follow-up. Given the extensive troubleshooting steps you've already undertaken, it appears that the issue may be hardware-related. Here are the next steps you can take:

  1. Visit an Authorized Service Center:

    • Since the USB-C port remains non-functional despite all troubleshooting efforts, it would be best to have your laptop inspected by a professional. You can find the nearest authorized service center using this link.
  2. Check Warranty Status:

    • Ensure your device is still under warranty. You can check your warranty status here. If your laptop is under warranty, repairs may be covered.
  3. Submit a Service Request:

    • If visiting a service center is not feasible, you can submit a service request online for further assistance. Use this link to initiate the process.
  4. Contact Lenovo Support:

    • For immediate assistance, you can also contact Lenovo Support directly. Here is the contact information.

I understand how crucial it is to have all ports functioning, especially for your headset. If you need any further assistance or have additional questions, please feel free to reach out.
