Unable to install Bios update

2019-01-28, 17:22 PM

I have Lenovo legion Y520 and just got a notification for bios update. I tried to update it and even restarted my latptop and installed any windows pending update yet it still says unable to install and keeps saying reboot required.

I had this problem too in Lenovo Vantage, but after that I installed the update manually. I don't know why it kept saying that the download failed and a restard might repair the problem, actually the restard did nothing.

So I suggest you should install the bios update manually.

Heh, I was just about to post the same question; I see lots of people apparently have been having the same issue. By installing it manually, do you guys mean with Winflash or something? Or just find and download the file from Windows and run it as an executable?

Re: Unable to install Bios update

Found this on another Forum:

Via Lenovo Vantage I was trying to update with BIOS 4KCN41WW and luckily it failed.

Probably (I hope) because Lenovo has included something to make it fail before install.

Intel has withdrawn lots of firmware updates they sent to implementors of their processors because of problems:

https://newsroom.intel.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2018/01/microcode-update-guidance.pdf

If I log in to the Lenovo support site and look for available BIOS updates the newest available is 4KCN40WW.

That one does not include solution to CVE-2017-5715 (Lenovo ID: LEN-18282).

If you look at:

https://support.lenovo.com/kr/en/solutions/len-18282#ideapad

you see the status is "Researching".

Just wait until proper implementation is there.

Oh, so you're saying we should just ignore the popups that say it recommends you update the BIOS for now? And how do we know when the right implemention does come?

Also, for me I think it was 45, not 41.
