Unbelieveable hot Keyboard of Legion 5 pro

2021-06-12, 0:48 AM

Keyboard Part behind GPU will be over 50 celcius grad after 10min under full load, even higher after 30min gaming. I dont have a themormeter, but the Surface is too hot to touch. Meanwhile the temperature of GPU RTX 3070 itself is quite normal, only 78 grad. Still can not understand how does this happen, all reviews of the type show a maximum 45 grad keyboard temperature.

Tried to reach technik support, but u know, WEEKEND. So is it a technik defekt? Or I should just send it back?

Pretty much this is how I keep my laptop as well, going strong even after 5 years.

Good luck and let us know if you have more questions.

Well I just got the laptop 2 days ago and the USA-A port on the right side can not regonize any device except mobile Hard Drives. I have upgraded my warrent to premium care, so I hope maybe I could get some help from it before my Return Period. Any advice or experience is very welcome.

Hi there, welcome to the forums.

There have been lenovo keyboards in the past that get quite hot to touch sometimes, especially if you are playing a game during hot weather.

What I can recommend is to follow the general guidelines to keep the laptop cool like -

1) play with the laptop slightly propped up from desk to maintain airflow

2) keep air vents clear of obstructions

3) reduce graphical fidelity slightly to better manage temps

4) play in a room with air conditioning or a fan directed at the laptop

keyboard does not have its own mechanism to cool itself and there will always be certain keys that will get slightly heated, you can remap these keys so you dont use them during the game.

The other option is to use an external keyboard while gaming, I assume keyboard is not overheating while browsing internet, correct?

Thanks for your advice. That is actually what I have done right now. I actually use an external keyboard and monitor to use my laptop at home. It's not a fatal problem. But I still worry about the damage to the keyboard itself as well as the screen from the high temperature of the keyboard when I close the laptop for long periods of time to game. So I bought a temperature gun and am still trying to contact tech support to come and check it out.

Ok yes. Please never close the laptop lid while gaming.

Telling you from personal experience that closing the laptop lid while gaming is not going to end well.

Keep it slightly open (45 degrees angle) so the heat can dissipate.

Yep, just bought a new laptop stand on Amazon. I am running GPU Stress test right now. Remarkable effect. But I think I will probably have to sacrifice some of my desktop space forever since the laptop can’t be closed under high load.

Re:Unbelieveable hot Keyboard of Legion 5 pro

After 15 minutes of GPU stress test, the GPU temperature was stable at 74 degrees Celsius, while the temperature gun showed that the keyboard high temperature area temperature was 45-51 degrees Celsius, which I think is still an acceptable result. Probably because the cooling of the MSI GT72VR I was using before was just too good, and although the Legion 5 pro's cooling was also not bad, I was still puzzled by the temperature of the keyboard.

Now that there is only one problem with a USB-A port that can only recognize mobile hard drive, I guess I won't want to bother with it anymore. Still got two years of premium care, so we can see.

Thank you again very much for your advice and help. Have a nice day!

I have the same problem with the right keyboard.  It is very hot!

Do you know what caused this and the solution for it?  It is strange because the cpu/gpu temp is normal, it's just the keys are so hot!

What have you decide to do with the laptop?  I'm not sure if it's a design flaw or if it is something that can be fixed by service support.
