Undervolt CPU on advanced BIOS options.

2020-07-28, 14:30 PM

Hello. I have a Legion Y740 Model Y740-17IRH-840.

I noticed that my CPU goes almost to 100ºC on some gaming and I want to undervolt the cpu to avoid those temps.

Intel XTU does not allow me to do undervolt and same goes to the throttlestop. I have read that is the bios update for some intel security fix disable this option.

But then I entered the advanced BIOS and set manually the undervolt on the Thermal & Performance menu and it successfully applies it, but then if I shut down the computer or restart, it goes again to default values.

How can I do the undervolt? I also tried to install previous bios version but it does not allowed me because it say that I already have a never version.

Thank you!

It's by design after someone discovered that this is a vulnerability - so-called "Plundervolt" attack.

You can reenable by following these instructions (not simple, but not difficult):

I also have the same problem. Laptop is getting too hot for gaming. Undervolting is disabled when using XTU or Throttlestop. From bios is possible and are working fantastically, but the bios resets after shutdown. Lenovo, please come with some fix. My laptop reached 100 degrees celcius when playing games, and with undervolt it's at 77 to 86.

Same issue. This new BIOS update has probably disabled the undervolting settings, as shown in the attachment.

Lenovo really should be giving solutions instead of creating problems.

Same issue, used to undervolt -145 and helped a bit, noticed that all the options are grey out and games running hot beyond other problems.

Fix this please
