Upgrading Parts: Lenovo Y700 Touch-15ISK (80NW000PUS)

Good morning. Before I purchase anything, I would like someone more knowledgeable to confirm that all of the items below are compatible with one another.

* Laptop: Lenovo Y700 Touch-15ISK
Model: 80NW000PUS
Retailer: Best Buy
Best Buy Link: http://goo.gl/V8HnQs

* RAM (two choices):

(1) DIMM, M471A5143DB0-CPB D/25nm/4Gbx8
(2) DIMM, M471A1G43DB0-CPB D/25nm/4Gbx8

- (2) confuses me because on Amazon it says 8Gb/512Mx64. Is it a single high-capacity stick? If so, should I buy that one or two low-capacity ones? Notably, the Lenovo Hardware Maintenance Manual states that it should read 4Gbx8, not 8Gb.

* SSD: Samsung MZVLV512HCJH, 512GB, M.2 (PCIe)
Amazon Link: https://goo.gl/Uak1e8

Lastly, I don't want to purchase and install a new OS; instead, I'd like to transfer the pre-installed HDD one onto the M.2. Could you please suggest ways to do this?

PS: If you feel as if a better laptop exists within the same price range, please let me know.

Re: Upgrading Parts: Lenovo Y700 Touch-15ISK (80NW000PUS)

Hi TechEnthusiast ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

There are packages / variants for Lenovo Y700 Touch-15ISK each differs from each other with capacity and devices installed . They are identified by model numbers (ex. 80NW000PUS )

You may be able to show differences of each (memory , harddrive etc) here click on show current models to compare .

I usually verify the parts listed on each package model from the parts look up page and compare it from the hardware manuals FRU list (page78 for the memory). Searching using part number versus the part name to be able to compare how it is amidst different naming codes used as follows:

Lenovo part number : 5M30H35724
DIMM, M471A5143DB0-CPB D/25nm/4Gbx8 5M30H35724 4GB
Organization :512Mx64 Component composition: (512Mx8)x8

Lenovo part number : 5M30H35727
DIMM, M471A1G43DB0-CPB D/25nm/4Gbx8 5M30H35727 8GB
Organization :1Gx64 Component composition: (512Mx8)x16

Th hardware manual would offer tested parts compatible for the 700 Touch-15ISK , but again they are each package differently so that is where you can use the parts look up page.

Resellers may offer customized package since maximum RAM is 16GB :

DDR4-2133 MHz, SODIMM × 2 slots (max 16 GB) (page26

You may have 1 piece 8 GB RAM with the other slot future upgrade on your initial purchase .

Take your time to review on the offered model including SSD + 1TB harddrive offered too on shop.lenovo.com (view current models) and try customizing it too for comparison and pricing

There is alot of cloning software you can use to transfer pre installed HDD as on this discussion.

Update us for any other clarifications if needed .

I do hope this help answer your initial query.

Regards

Re: Upgrading Parts: Lenovo Y700 Touch-15ISK (80NW000PUS)

Thank you for your reply. I found your recommendation to customize the Y700 helpful.

I'm considering the following design:

If I were to get the 512 GB M.2 SSD, could you please tell me whether Lenovo will install the SATA or PCI-E version?

Re: Upgrading Parts: Lenovo Y700 Touch-15ISK (80NW000PUS)

Hi TechEnthusiast ,

Greetings.

512 GB M.2 SSD would have its own slot interface (page 40) that supports both SATA and PCIE depending on the SSD model.

As example from the offered models (see harddrive description):

(hardrive indicated as PCIe SSD)

Model : 80NV00Q7US getting the SSD part number from parts look up :

5SD0J46481 Samsung MZVLV512HCJH SOLID STATE DRIVES is PCI Express Gen3 x4

Compared to those described only as SSD :

Model : 80NV005FUS getting the SSD part number from parts look up :

5SD0H00094 Samsung MZNLN128HCGR M.2 SOLID STATE DRIVES is Serial ATA 6.0 Gbps

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Re: Upgrading Parts: Lenovo Y700 Touch-15ISK (80NW000PUS)

I found out about Lenovo's involvement in the SuperFish scandal, so I decided to buy the New Razer Blade instead. Nonetheless, thank you for your assistance.
