Upgrading Y530?

I am thinking about to purchase Y530 with the 512GB SSD version on Black Friday since it will be on sale on that day, I would like to know if I can add a 1TB HDD while keeping the 512GB SSD?

If not, can I have stock 512GB SSD + Evo 960?

Re: Upgrading Y530?

Hi zxcv369,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Yes, you can add 1TB SATA HDD while keeping the 512 m.2 SSD as answered on the post here. Checking with the US Lenovo site also show customization options too.

Related discussiond also available here and here.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Re: Upgrading Y530?

Thank you, but it seems that version comes with a 512GB SATA SSD, it seems that I can't find another SATA slot to insert a HDD, are you sure I can do that on Y530?

Re: Upgrading Y530?

Hi zxcv369,

What Spidey101 suggested is to keep the m.2 SSD then your 512GB 2.5" SSD is to plug to the 2.5" bay.

Note that m.2 SSD is different than the 2.5" SSD. The Y530 only has a 2.5" Sata bay.

Hope that helps.

I have a Y530 ... Feel free to highlight any post which you have posted on the forum to me if no one have chimed in.

Re: Upgrading Y530?

Hi zxcv369 ,

The Y530 goes with different variants as you would see here in the product specification and even on the customization page. It would be better to check the options if you have a machine number /MTM of the one you have in mind (ex. 81FV0009MX ).

storage: (One of the following, configurable by modelSmiley Happy

• HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high

• SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 5mm high

• M.2 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 4, 32Gb/s (e.g. xxxGB SSD M.2 PCIe NVMe)

• 16GB Intel Optane memory, PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 4, 32Gb/s, M.2

Update us soon as convenient.

Re: Upgrading Y530?

Hi,

Adding to spidey's post:

The ssd mentioned in the custamizable version of y530 is  an m.2 pcie ssd model.

The SATA port comes empty(If you select a model with ssd) or with a HDD as per the website.

As, the SSD prices are bit low, I would suggest buying a model with HDD and then upgrade the m.2 PCIE slot with an SSD (Like Samsung 970 evo.)

Another suggession: I you can wait until black friday, there are good deals form lenovo on 26th Nov Smiley Wink
