Vantage shows 7GB VRAM instead of 8GB VRAM

Hi,

I have recently bought new Lenovo Legion 5, model with AMD Ryzen 5800H and nvidia RTX 3070 (product ID 82JU002RMX). The specification of the laptop mentions that RTX 3070 has 8GB RAM, but when I check in the Vantage app it says 7 GB. Could you please tell me where 1GB disappeard? Thank you and best regards.

Hello @SofaSurfer ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Kindly try updating the BIOS and display drivers of your machine.

You can download it using this link (please note that you may have to enter your serial number in order to get the right file): https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ph/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/legion-series/legion-5-15ach6h/82ju/82ju002rmx/downloads/driver-list

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jack_Lenovo1

Re:Vantage shows 7GB VRAM instead of 8GB VRAM

Hi @SofaSurfer,

The picture you have shared with us shows the frequency (GHz) of the memory and not the capacity (GB). If you open the task manager, you should be able to see the capacity of video memory under the tab "performance".

Kind regards,

August

Re:Vantage shows 7GB VRAM instead of 8GB VRAM

Hi,

thank you. I did the updates of BIOS and graphic card and now I have another issue. The bar is constantly full, it does not drop, and I am recieving the error from Radeon card.

Best regards.

There is some application using the GPU, this issue cannot be analyzed in isolation. Can you please share the Task Manager screenshot also, filter it using the CPU usage. Thanks.

Re:Vantage shows 7GB VRAM instead of 8GB VRAM

Here comes the screenshot

I don't see that anything is draining the GPU more than normal. Somehow I have a feeling it is connected with the error that I am geting for Radeon card "Loadlibrary failed with error 126 the specified module could not be found"

Re:Vantage shows 7GB VRAM instead of 8GB VRAM

I tried to disable Radeon card and the bar went down and message disappeard.

So, my assumption is the issue with the Radeon card/drivers that I downloaded and installed.

Of course, I don't want to have Radeon card disabled as permanent solution, therefore if somebody has an idea how to fix this issue, I would be very grateful. To downgrade drivers and/or BIOS?

Thanks

Re:Vantage shows 7GB VRAM instead of 8GB VRAM

Just install an older version of the drivers from their website, or try to rollback the drivers from Device Manager.

Re:Vantage shows 7GB VRAM instead of 8GB VRAM

Hi,

After reinstalling the card and using the old drivers, no changes, the same thing. I did a system restore and issue remained, but managed to narrrow it down to the AMD Radeon Software. The software went completely mad and I could not uninstall it from the computer. It is the version installed over Windows Store and still I cannot remove it. I will try to google it.

I downloaded "normal" version from AMD site and installed it. That solved both issues, VRAM and the issue with the messsage.

I don't understand how could all of these fall apart after installing official drivers from Lenovo.

Anyway, thanks.

Re:Vantage shows 7GB VRAM instead of 8GB VRAM

Hi,

I fixed the issues. I downloaded AMD Cleaning utility, cleaned out all AMD stuff from the laptop and then installed the AMD drivers from Lenovo support page. Now no messages, AMD Radeon software works, the only issue remains with VRAM bar which is always full in Lenovo Vantage. If I disable AMD card in Device Manager, VRAM goes down instantly.

I will monitor situation to see would VRAM go down. If not, then on Monday I am calling the support service to see would they manage to help somehow.

Thanks all.
