Very high temperatures at all times

I have a lenovo legion 5 with an RTX3070 and an amd ryzen 7 5800h

No matter what, my cpu and gpu temperatures are high. If the laptop is even on for 20 minutes, the cpu temperature reaches 90-100 degrees celcius, and the gpu about high 70s to low 80s.  Note that this is at low utilization i.e not using any intensive programs. I don't even need anything open.

This is also regardless of the utilization of the cpu and gpu, i.e the cpu utilization right now is about 10% and the temperature is 92. The gpu is not being utilized and the temperature is 70 something.

This problem started recently, and I can't find out why, and makes playing any game that is even slightly intensive completely impossible.

I do not know how to fix this, I doubt a simple cleaning will do. I have not personally damaged the laptop at all, and it just started happening a month of 2 ago.  The fan speed I set the laptop to doesn't matter either. Also, the battery capacity is still as good as new, at about 60Wh, but the laptop draws more than 30W whether it is connected to a battery source or not. The room I use it in is cold, and I rarely, if ever, take it out of the room. Elevating the laptop doesn't help much, and the fans sound like they still work. I doubt a cleaning will fix this.

Some notes are: my drivers are up to date for the gpu and I think the cpu as well. No system updates needed as far as I can tell. The VRAM disk speed is always 7Ghz unless the laptop is unplugged, regardless of what programs I am running. I haven't messed with any settings myself apart from trying to fix the issue after it already happened.

It's a legion5 15ach6h

Re:Very high temperatures at all times

Hi Tarnished,

I'm sorry to hear about the high temperatures you're experiencing with your Lenovo Legion 5. This is certainly not the norm and I understand your concern.

Firstly, I would recommend checking if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop. You can do this by visiting the Lenovo Support website here.

Secondly, you might want to try resetting your power plan to default settings. This can sometimes help with temperature issues.

If the issue persists, it might be a good idea to contact Lenovo technical support directly. They can guide you through some more advanced troubleshooting steps or arrange for a repair if necessary. You can submit a service request here.

I hope this helps and your issue gets resolved soon.

Best regards,

Arjay1_Lenovo

Re:Very high temperatures at all times

Hi,

I reset my laptop and it somewhat helped. The temperatures still get quite high when playing games resulting in throttling, meaning I can't play near settings that are recommended for the specs of the device.

The temperatures when not playing are much better than they were before hand, but still in the 60s for the cpu.

Re:Very high temperatures at all times

I'm glad to hear that resetting your laptop has helped to some extent. However, it's concerning that you're still experiencing high temperatures while gaming.

You might want to try using the Lenovo Vantage app, which offers various features including System Health and Performance Monitoring. This could help you to better understand what's causing the high temperatures. You can download the app here.

If the issue persists, I would recommend contacting Lenovo technical support directly. They can guide you through more advanced troubleshooting steps or arrange for a repair if necessary. You can submit a service request here.

I hope this helps and your issue gets resolved soon.

Best regards,
