What upgrade capabilities does my Lenovo Legion 5-15ARH05H Laptop - Type 82B1 Have?

2020-09-29, 19:27 PM

Hi All,

Just recently purchased this laptop and I want to expand the memory and upgrade the RAM. My understanding is that the laptop can be upgraded to have 2 16GB sticks (totaling 32gb of RAM).

However, my question is can my system run native @ 3200mhz if I upgrade? I ran CPU-Z on my device and it appears (to a noob like me), that I am currently running 2 8GB sticks at a speed of 1600MHZ? Am I mistaken here, or is my total speed 1600MHZ? I have attached an image below for reference.

The RAM Im thinking of upgrading to is below:

https://www.newegg.com/team-32gb-260-pin-ddr4-so-dimm/p/N82E16820331504?Item=N82E16820331504

Also, does my system have space for a secondary NVMe SSD to be installed? The system came with 515gb, but I would like to add an additional 1TB if possible, and POTENTIALLY an additional SATA Drive simply for storage of files since the Read/Write sucks on SATA's from what I read.

If I CAN install a secondary NVMe SSD, which brand does the community recommend?

Hope someone can help.

I received mine a few days ago.

1) DDR4-3200 does run at 1600MHz.

2) The machine does have a second NVMe slot, but might not support one without a BIOS update. It sounds like some users have tried it, and the system keeps rebooting.

3) A SATA drive will work fine, and while your throughput might not be NVMe speeds, it should be plenty for storage needs. You'll be looking at something like 500MB/s vs 2000MB/s.

I installed a 2nd NVME drive and worked immediately without a BIOS update (currently on FSCN13WW, it was working on the BIOS that it shipped with (early Oct 2020). Note that you can use EITHER the 2nd NVME slot OR the 2.5" SATA slot, but not both. Also note that if you get the larger 80wh battery, there will not be space for the SATA slot. Only the 60wh battery leaves space for the SATA drive. I'm using a WDS100T2X0C Western Digital Black 1TB NVME drive and it works fine.

For general use of medium gaming and some photoshop express work, would the 2.5" SSD drive be all that slower than the extra M.2 drive?

Perceived speed, not actual. I'm using a desktop AMD FX-6300 with 16gb and SSD HD.

Thanks!
