Windows 10 doesnt want to start from ssd m.2 PCIe

2017-10-13, 10:42 AM

I would like to introduce you my problem. I have bought Lenovo legion y520 with i7, 8 ram, gtx 1050 and hdd 1Tb. Then, i decided to buy ssd m.2 PCIe and my choice was buying Plextor m8pe 128GB without radiator. I installed the disc and computer see this disc in bios. Moreover Windows also see this disc and i can use it. When everything was okey, i decided to install Windows 10 home on this sdd disc. I have prepared USB and i plugged in the USB, switch in bios to UEFI and AHCI, and normally install the system on the sdd disc. The problem is that, after installing the system doesnt want to start. I tried to change everything in bios and i had only one result: the computer showed brand plextor and information that the disc was found. I tried to install system 5 times with hdd on the board and without and everytime the system doesnt want to start. I thought that there was a problem with USB and i have tried install on the hdd and everything was good. Now i have system on hdd and iam able to use sdd. If someone has idea what to do to have system on sdd and so as to it works?

Hi SimonFromPoland,

1. Have you tried to change the boot to Windows Boot Manager after installation of Windows 10 on your new M2 SSD?

2. Have you update the BIOS before installing the M2 SSD?

What error do you get when it tries to boot off of the SSD?

How did you create the Windows 10 installation media, did you use Microsoft's media creation tool?

You definitely do not want the old HD installed in the system while installing Windows 10 to the SSD or you will have problems.    You also need to make sure that your SSD is completely wiped before attempting to install Windows on the SSD again.

Fully wiping your SSD

  • When you reach the first Windows 10 installation screen that asks for language, press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt.

At the command prompt, type the following commands followed by pressing Enter

  • diskpart
  • list disk                     Will show available disk
  • select disk X            Where X is the disk you wish to install Windows ( your SSD should be disk0 )
  • clean                        This deletes all partitions
  • convert GPT           This initializes the drive as GPT
  • exit
  • exit                           Returns you to the Windows Installation screen

Continue with the Windows 10 install and hopefully it will work, but if not post info about what errors, or messages you receive on boot.

Good Luck,

I have got information that i dont have disc with system. The bios starts normally but later there is information: checking media... And later there is information: Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed.Insert Recovery Media and hit any key Then select Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media
