Y530 Wifi Keeps Disconnecting (180 times in 24 hours)

2018-11-04, 21:34 PM

I recently bought a Y530 outfitted with the new GT1060. The Wifi kept disconnecting on the first computer I got and also due to some hardware issues (touchpad didn't work), support ended up sending a replacement computer. Support also has already confirmed that all my drivers are up to date. The replacement computer also has had the Wifi disconnecting constantly. I believe it's just the two Lenovo laptops because when the wifi disconnects on them my roomates Wifi connection on their laptops is stable.

I bought an app called Net Uptime monitor to track how often the Wifi disconnects. It went above 300 ping over 4 seconds, 182 times in a 24 hour period. 300 ping over 10 seconds was at 51 times. Constantly when I'm just browsing the internet every few minutes the webpage will stop loading.

At this point I'm thinking of just returning the computer, but not sure if there's any other things I can do?

This is what I have done up to this point:

1. Checked all latest drivers are up to date

2. Reset TCP/IP Stack

3. Changed Wifi Power options to not allow it to turn off wireless to save power

4. Changed in battery settings to be maximum performance for wifi for both plugged in mode and battery

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hey there, basketchamp1125!

Welcome to the Lenovo Community forum!

First of all, we're sorry for the trouble. Just to confirm, have you tried connecting the laptop to another Wi-Fi network and compare? If not, please try connecting the laptop to another Wi-Fi network and check if the problem will occur.

Also, are you using a Dual-Band wireless router? If yes, have you tried connecting the laptop to a 2.4 GHz network or 5.0 GHz network only? If not, try connecting the laptop to a 2.4 GHz network and monitor it. Also, try connecting the laptop to a 5.0 GHz network and monitor, then compare the outcome. Please update us back with the result.

Regards!

Do you have the Realtek or the Intel wifi card? I had a few wifi disconnect issues with the Realtek card, so replaced it with the intel 9560 wifi card and have not had any issues since then.

Replacement options discussed here:

The Intel 9560 wifi card is the gold standard for this class laptop (for now) and is available for around $20.

At least you should provide a driver update for realtek wifi cards because they are so bad, I'm having the same problem with mine. That's frustrating for a gaming laptop...You can find many topics on this forum related to this problem and many other problems, but it seems like you don't care. I'm really mad on lenovo, worst experience ever.

I have the Realtek Wifi card (there wasn't another option) and the Wifi network band I am currently using is 2.4 GHz, I will see if I can find a 5.0 Ghz to test somewhere.

Just confirming that the right Wifi card to buy is the  Intel 9560 wifi card  NOT  the Intel 9260 wifi card. Anyone know the difference?

The amount of continous drops makes this computer really not possible to use unfortunately. Such a shame because I really like it...

I have almost the same problem.

I m only using a 5Ghz wifi and for some random times it keeps disconnecting.

I tested aswell all the other methods above and none seems to work..

Its a shame how this laptop is getting a lot of problems

I think i will return it

5Ghz wifi has a very short range. 2.4Ghz has a long range.

Before I go out and buy a different Wifi card to install, can I get a Lenovo support agent to comment on whether or not this would invalidate my warranty?

Can I buy this Wifi card myself, and have support install it instead, is that a possibilit to fix this issue?

Testing on both the 5.0 and 2.7 networks sepaaretely has confirmed the disconnects exists on both. On stronger networks (my work) the DC rate has gone down, but still at an unacceptable rate about 5-10 times in an hour.

What is the next step to proceed?

Replace the Realtek wifi card with Intel wifi card.
