Y540 missing a hinge

2019-07-20, 16:29 PM

Just got my y540 and noticed that it is missing a hinge. I'm not sure if it is a defect (probably it is) since this is the only y540 I have seen. Do you guys also have the same thing ?

Good day and welcome to the community.

There doesn't appear to be anything amiss with your hinges.

Looking at the right side hinge, you see the pin joining the hinge to the lid. On the left side, you see the pin on the outer portion. The thing you see on the inner portion of the hinge is a cable running from the main chassis into the lid. If you look at pages 51-52 of the hardware manual, you'll see it.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Same With my Lenovo Legion y540 (Indian Variant) also. The pin on the right side hinge is missing. I don't know whether it is a manufacturing defect or it is style of this laptop series.

Good day.

There's nothing wrong with your hinges.

The pin that joins the chassis to the lid/LCD is on the outer side of both the right and left hinges.

Y540 missing a hinge

I appropriately confirm that this isn't a manufacturing defect. All Lenovo Legion Y540 are designed this way only. Don't get worried if it isn't symmetrical. This is completely normal and doesn't effect the mobility of the screen. You can set the screen to any angle till 180° and it won't be a problem. ☮️
