Y540 wifi issues

2019-06-22, 3:11 AM

Just started using the laptop, experiencing presistent wifi issues on the 5 GHZ connection , with frequent slow down and drops. Works as expected on 2.4GHz connection. I have tried bios update and updating the Intel Wireless AC 9560 adapater but have had no luck with anything. I am maybe 30 feet maxium from the router on the same floor but i am gettings speeds all over place.

Should i implement anything on the other drivers in the device manager in the image?

Hi Samsom123! Welcome to our forums community. Are you experiencing the same issue with the 5 GHz band with other devices? May we know what is the driver version of the Wireless AC 9560? Just to make sure that you've installed the updated drivers, run the update through the Lenovo Vantage app and install all available updates. Check if the issue persist.

I am facing the same problem.
I rolled back the driver and then updated both the intel and realtek drivers. Still I am unable to get the full speed. While my other devices at same place in the room are getting full speed on wifi.

Don't know if you still need help or not but this is most likely, due to the fact that you either have Lenovo nerve center installed or not installed, and the network throttle option is not on, if you don't have nerve center installed, install it so you can enable that option you will then receive the proper speeds!

There are two ways this can go.

Remove the new drivers and settle on old ones. Then update your firmware images using Lenovo Vantage.

The other way is drop the Intel drivers and only Install RealTek drivers.

Do the corollary as well, that is, keep the intel driver and remove the RealTek drivers.

Test the system in all driver possibilities and revert if you still face an issue.

Re:Y540 wifi issues

So i have the lenovo y540 and it seems that we are all having the same issue. Ive spent countless hours searching forums and reddit. Basically tried every single fix. I was even given a list of 1 to 6 troubleshoot methods which includes reinstalling the drivers. Rolling back to factory drivers and doing something on cmd which messes with the ip. I even tried to replace the wifi card and modem of my wifi. After trying almost every software and hardware solution i could think of , i gave up. But one day , i was just messing around with lenovo vantage and noticed a bios update so i left it to update and after an hour, my laptop no more wifi issues. It used to bottle neck my wifi download speed from 80 to 8mbps and upload from 20 to 0.2mbps.

After a lot of searching, the solution is simple. Just disable the 802.11n from the Wi-Fi driver properties.

  1. Open Network and Sharing Center
  2. Click Change Adapter Settings on the left
  3. Right-click the Wi-Fi adapter and select the Properties button
  4. Click Configure button
  5. Select the Advanced tab and search for the 802.11n Mode under the property. Select this mode and change the Value to Disable.
