Y545 feedback from 3.5mm jack

2019-08-18, 15:46 PM

Hello all,

I purchased this laptop almost 2 weeks ago and have been having problems with the 3.5mm jack.  I would be happy if the issue was related to the Realtek driver but it seems to be related to the feedback coming from the 3.5mm jack whether the driver is enabled or disabled.  I've reinstalled the realtek driver, used the windows update, did a clean install, and did manual installation through the lenovo support website.  I'm 1 week from returning this laptop as I feel that it is a hardware issue and that is unacceptable to have a new laptop have issues from the start.  Any experience with this laptop and this issue is greatly appreciated until I can get a hold of support on Monday.

Is it a crackling sound in headphones which goes away when some sound is played?

Unfortunately it does not.  It happens no matter what you do.

Good news.  It wasn't a bad audio jack.

Bad news.  It is the wireless interference coming from the wifi card and the sound card is picking it up.

Come on... man.

I requested a replacement through the 3rd party vendor I used and it was accepted.  I will be getting a replacement.

If you have the Legion Y545 15” Gaming Laptop, please check your 3.5mm jack and see that you don't hear interference when it is on.  It can be related to the sound card or the wifi card's interference.

Finally a solution.

  1. Right click on wifi icon (right bottom of task bar) and choose Open Network & Internet Settings.
  2. Now you are at Network Connections window, Status tab (win10), click on Change Adapter Options
  3. Right click on your enabled network adapter (Wi-Fi) and click on Properties
  4. Now you are at Wi-Fi Properties window, click on Configure button.
  5. Click on Advanced tab,
  6. You will see properties in a multilist window, choose Transmit Power.
  7. There will be a setting of selected property in the right side, choose the 4- Mid-High or 3- Mid option (I use 4, and default was 5-Highest)

Hopefully that works for other users that have this issue.

I sent my laptop in for replacement as it was approved (through Lenovo at Rakuten.com) but they have done a 180 on me and state it is out of stock and wanted to know if I wanted to wait or get a refund.

Lenovo support chat on this website has done nothing to help me with this issue even though all information is tied to them ranging from order number, replacement order number, RMA info, and e-mail address.  If you do not want to be responsible for products you sold on 3rd party websites, do not put your name on them.

It may seem obvious...but did you notice the F4 function key that turns the microphone off/on? i have bumped mine a few times and figured out it was that I manually turned it off even tho it does not show that I did in settings. Crazy simple...but try it.
