Y700-15ISK components bottleneck Samsung 960 PRO SSD?

2016-12-15, 22:58 PM

Hi,

For a M.2 SSD, I'm strongly leaning on the Samsung 960 series, but I'm not sure if I should get the EVO or the PRO.

Would anyone think that other components might bottleneck the PRO? Wondering if that's an overkill for this system.

Here's the comparison between the two.

Regards,

David

The M.2 SSDs supported in Y700 are PM951 and PM871. Any others are not provided in the official hardware manual.

You can buy it from a place where you can test and return if it does not work.

I have bought the Samsung 960 EVO 500GB for my Y700-15ISK.

I have managed to install a clean copy of Windows 10. These are the benchmarks from Crystal Disk Mark.

The read speeds are a bit low, it should have been at least 50% faster, maybe I have to make certain settings. I wanna mention that I have installed the driver for this device from the manufacturer website.

What's your experience with Samsung 960 or PCIE SSD on y700? For average user, windows booting is there any benefit over cheap SATA SSD?
