Re: Y700-17 flickering screen

2016-05-16, 14:35 PM

"Service Center at Ukraine cant send it to Poland ? or you must do it by yourself ?"

No, they can't send it, only thing they can do is to run diagnostics, what I can do myself and I actually did and I got no errors or something - it passed all tests without a problem. But the screen still blinking, nothing is changed. Therefore I must send it myself, but I don't know how to properly arrange this yet ( So I have two options - pay my own money to the local service center and hope that they will somehow solve the issue, or just open it myself and check all connectors and wires... as I already mentioned warranty don't work in Ukraine so I don't have nothing to lose in any case...

Lenovo Ideapad y700 screen flickering on and off

2016-05-17, 15:32 PM

Hi, I have problem in my new Lenovo Ideapad Y700. The screen is flickering on and off while i'm using it.

After reading similar problems and solutions, I updated my Intel Video Drivers and the Mathematical Operations Test does not fail anymore, but the screen is still flickering.

I am disappointed with this. And i really want to know if is this something that can easily fixed or i have to send it for servicing by postal service? Taking into account that i am from Argentina and my Warranty is not international because there is no extension of Ideapad Y700 Technical Service here.

I'm desperate.

Thank you

Lucila1

Try to connect monitor via hdmi cable, and see if flickering on other monitor.
The problem of flickering are hardware, soft and drivers can't fix it.
where you buy it ?

Seems to be a hardware fault. I saw someone on the forum explaining it was solved by opening the PC, disconnecting the Video cable/connector then connecting it back again. Mine was sent back to Amazon. I could see it was hardware when using the recovery menu (power off, use a paper clip in the small aperture before the audio jack, select BIOS. If it still flickers it is definitely H/W.

I think, solution you're talking about is for different laptop model (Y 50-70). There is no info yet that our model can be fixed using this technique.
BTW here is the topic I'm talking about https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/SOLUTION-Lenovo-Y50-70-flickering-screen/m-p/2157876

I didn't tried HDMI yet (can't find a cable) but couple days ago I was testing flickering in BIOS, I was waiting for about three hours and there wasn't any. But I'll to try this test again for a longer time and post results here when it will be done.

OK, it doesn't flicker in BIOS meaning at least one of the graphic card mode is OK. Then, you may try launching Windows in safe mode (a bit elaborate for Win8/10) so it doesn't load advanced graphic modes. You could also try booting from Knoppix (from a live USB flahkey) and see if the issue remains.

After using laptop for 5 months, screen started blinking/flickering even before operating system boots up.

I can clearly see flickering even in BIOS. Also when this started happening I was able to see old windows/images of programs I closed already on the screen.

Will opening a back lid void my warranty ? (Answer this only if you are Lenovo representative).
