Y700-17ISK charger wattage

2019-02-15, 10:51 AM

Hello, this is my first post here.

I’ve tried searching the forums, and only found a partial answer to my question.

My charger recently gave up on me and through a few hours of searching I have found out that no stores here in Sweden has the original 135w charger in stock.

The closest i can get is 90w and my question is: Will it be enough to power my computer during heavy processor and graphics usage, and will it have any negative impact on my pc’s hardware? Is there anything else i should know before purchasing a universal 90w 20v 6.75a charger?

Thanks in advance, Kalle

I believe, that your laptop is using standard slim tip AC power adapter, but to make sure, could you please provide FRU number from your faulty AC adapter?

It's a model number, but as I use the same AC adapter with my laptop, then I know what you need. :smileyhappy:

You need this adapter (EU1 countries), PN: 4X20E50562. I had no problem to find it on Amazon and eBay.

There could be many reasons, co it's hard to tell without more information. You may try to download Lenovo Vantage and check if charging threshold is configured or remove battery for a few minutes and then reinstall it again. I would advice to buy 135W power adapter and then check if issue is still present.

Okay, thanks! But the problem doesn't seem to be with the charger, since the charger im using should at least charge it slowly.
There seems to be an issue with either drivers or the DC-jack, or (hopefully not) i've fried the motherboard somehow with my faulty charger. :(

It may or may not charge - it depend on your current load. Is hard to tell, if you damaged your motherboard.

There was a topic in the past regarding a similar issue. It may be for ThinkPad device, but maybe you'll find some clues there?

I looked through the thread but it did not provide me a solution im afraid.. i didnt really understand if he meant removed the battery physically or the software, but sinne my battery is at 0% removing the battery or adapter driver results in a forced shutdown. I am running out of ways to tackle the problem and im starting to give up on ever resurrecting my pc.

After performing a factory reset, the battery now charges while in sleep mode. But not when inside of windows. Does anyone know what's causing this?
