Bought this laptop 1 year ago and have been experienceing screen flicker since day 1.
I´ve tried to update intel graphics drivers plenty of times, reinstalled windows 10, updated bios, changed power settings to max performance and to NO avail nothing seems to work.
Did I buy a DUD or is there something that I am missing?

Why did you wait so long to try to solve the issue? If you would have contacted the support line whilst in 28 days of purchase, you could`ve been able to return the unit for a refund/replacement.
In any case, regarding the flickering screen issue, try the steps below.
1.) Open the Intel Graphics Utility
2.) Navigate to Options > Power > Battery
3.) Disable the "Panel Self Refresh"
4.) Reboot the unit
If that does not work, try to download the video and Chipset drivers for the unit from the support page.
If that does not work, try to factory reset, this would rule out software issue.
Note: Please back up all your data as running this reset will delete any data on your machine
1. Turn the machine off and press the recovery button which is located usually next to the power button. If you have a desktop machine you will need to power the machine back on and keep tapping the F2 key.
2. Use the arrow keys and press enter on system recovery. ( Desktop users can skip this)
3. Select “restore from the initial backup” and then “Next”.
4. Click “start” and accept the warning messages.
Length of time can vary depending on the speed of the machine.
If these steps do not work I would recommend, that you call your local Lenovo support line for a possible service. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Can you describe what the flicker looks like? Is it flickering white, or is the backlight turning off? These may all be a result of a loose ribbon cable inside the assembly.
Normally I would send it out for warranty, but if it is outside of warranty, you can check if the cable is in fully on the bottom of the motherboard. The cable is located in the upper left corner of this image, right by the hinge:
