Y700 HDMI-connected monitor "grays out" periodically

Using ACER K272HUL 31 inch monitor, connected via HDMI to my Y700-15ISK Laptop (ideapad). I am still in warranty according to my support account. (I did however swap out the default hard drive for another one purchased elsewhere)

Here's what is happening: certain parts of the monitor with motion will remain colored while static parts will gray out.

Here's a reddit thread I submitted to /r/techsupport. In hopes of utilizing two communities.

So far, Bad HDMI port seems to be highest contender. I had a Y50-70 before this Y700 whose HDMI port was rather poor in quality; did not seat well, breathing on it wrong disconnected from monitor. It would not surprise me if that is the root problem.

Re: Y700 HDMI-connected monitor "grays out" periodically

I think it's unlikely to be a broken port, the symptoms would be different. Have you tried:

- only using the external monitor and not both screens (Win-P to switch)

- adjusting the refresh rate

- going through the settings on the external monitor

- another cable

- another monitor

It could also be a driver issue. If it only happens in-game then the Nvidia driver would be the likely culprit.
