Y700 Ideapad boot from SSD in USB issue

2021-09-08, 9:50 AM

OK I need to install a new SSD as my current one is full & I can no longer update it. The SSD has my installation of Windows on it. I was advised to swap out by old SSD with my new one a Crucial M.2 1TB SSD. Then put my old one into a USB caddy & boot from the USB, clone the old one onto the new one, remove USB & boot as normal & viola!

But that doesnt work my computer doesnt recognize the USB mounted SSD at all!

I have gone through Lenovo's how to boot from USB pages but still nothing. When I enter the boot menu the USB isn't even listed.

What am I missing?

Cloning is the easiest way, have a look here for the Crucial way:

https://uk.crucial.com/support/ssd/ssd-install/ssd-install-steps/part-1-prepare

SATA SSD / M.2 SSD there all the same way, just different fitting.

LEGION-5-15ACH6H, 82JU002YUK, Ryzen 7 5800H + Geforce RTX 3070 16Gb Hyper X, WD Black NVMe, FHD 165Hz, BIOS 44ww.

OK resolved, Acronis is very glitchy & needed patching to install new SSD
