Hello. I have a Lenovo Y700 which I purchased a few months ago. Recently the keyboard has stopped working regularly. The rest of the computer is fine, I can use the mouse and the computer normally, but I cant write. When I restart the computer, the keyboard works again.
Is this a known problem and is there a solution to this?

Hi Staalek1 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Is this something that would happen as soon as you log in within Windows?
How about using the onscreen keyboard or using and external USB keyboard?
If a recent windows update just happened before this event , a system restore to a previous working date may help . Proceed to disable automatic drivers updates from Windows so it would hold back any unexpected driver change in the future as this usually happens on Windows update related cases.
Update us how this goes.

Thank you very much for your answer.
It can happen at any time, doing anything really. It can be ok for hours, then it just stops working.
I will get an external keyboard shortly and try to see if that helps. I did some suggested changes in settings for the keyboard that I found online and see how it works. If it still stops working, I will follow your suggestions.

Hi Staalek1 ,
I usually isolate hardwares against the software failure by simply going to the BIOS to key if the keys would work as it would be outside windows and even try to boot on a usb live rescue image to check if it's a Windows issue.
Update us as soon as convenient.

I have encountered the same problem. Keyboard and touchpad freezes up.
When using my attached usb mouse, I can click my way to a restart. However, last time it happened, even the reboot BIOS (Novo somthing) would not allow me to use key strokes either. Eventually had to do a hard reset (power button) and everything seemed to be back to normal. For now.

Experiencing the same issue, at random the keyboard will stop responding, can't type, won't even respond to fn+spacebar to adjust the light setting. Turning off the laptop is required to restore functionality.
If a bios update is required to solve this issue, could someone advise me how to get it?

You have to: go to Lenovo support website (http://support.lenovo.com/) and
1- go to Lenovo support website (http://support.lenovo.com/) and
2- click 'Detect my product'.
3- Then, click 'update your system' and
4- download the BIOS option (http://support.lenovo.com/br/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/y700-17isk/80...). Just install it and wait.
5- Just install it.
