Y700 Touch Power Adapter Overheating

Hi. I have had my Y700 for about 3 months and though it runs perfect, the power adapter gets so hot that it actually leaves my hand red when I pick it up! I never have the powersuply covered or anything like that. Every time I play any game it gets this hot. Is this normal? Something tells me it is not but I thought I would throw it out there. Also, if the power suply is a problem, are there 3rd party power adapters that would be better? thanks

Re: Y700 Touch Power Adapter Overheating

Hi Redemption77

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would that be the same if you plug it with or without any power strip or different source outlet?

Warm feel should be normal but if its unusually warm then it could be alarming as it goes too hot to handle.

If so , this may likewise cause damage to the laptop and be best that you call in technical support for recommendation and service . You may likewise test a different adapter with the same electrical specification of your current one to isolate .

Re: Y700 Touch Power Adapter Overheating

Hi Redemption77 ,

I would suggest that you call in for immediate attention for your adapter as this may pose non direct issue with the systemboard and ports in the long run.

As this is a CRU part (customer replaceable part) you may have the option to have the adapter shipped to you immediately as tech support confirm the issue as part of your warranty coverage.

Update us how it goes.

Re: Y700 Touch Power Adapter Overheating

UPDATE: I recieved my new power adapter today and after 30 mins of Warframe, this one began to heat up fast too. I wondering if I made a mistake buy this laptop for gaming and work. Not all is bad because the laptop itself works fine, but i feel like I am always going to have live with the fear that this thing could crap out on me at anytime and as the owner of a business that requires me to have a laptop 90% of the time, I can't afford any down time. Why would the brick get so hot? The laptop doesn't. ...Weird.

Re: Y700 Touch Power Adapter Overheating

Hi Redemption77 ,

Greetings.

Would this issue be the same in the first 3 months of the laptop? WOuld it be the same having it connected to different power outlets?

As we noticed that during gaming (GPU needing more power)that the adapter goes hotter than usual , let would be best to have tech support be informed that is same issue even with a replaced adapter. Best to stay with OEM adapter recommendation as they would be able to check further on what is causing this and if needed further repair. Having warm adapter during intensive graphics use is normal but to a point that is hot to handle is a cornern.

Assuming that we have updated BIOS and graphic drivers from the support site, ensure that ventillationis not obstucted and filters are good.

Have a follow call using the same case number and update us how it goes.

Regards
