Y700 Touchpad freezes while keyboard is in use:

2016-02-12, 23:47 PM

Touchpad mouse pointer doesn't move (freezes) when keyboard keys are pressed simultaneously.

This is a problem particularly during game play when touchpad is used with keyboard arrow keys.

Windows mouse & touchpad is set to "NO DELAY (always on)"

No option in ALPS software to turn off "Palm Tracking", it's set to WIDE but doesn't help.

For a laptop advertised for GAMING this is not acceptable.

Configuration: ALPS touchpad (Lenovo pointing device) driver version 8.201.1611.251

Y700-14ISK

Short Answer: Yes, The short answer is:

kill the process id apoint.exe and restart it, then I'm able to move the cursor while holding down keys on the keyboard. Thanks alot LENOVO, for not bothering to resolve this issue.

I created a task that executes at logon that automates this. It's not a perfect solution, but it works.

How did you ever figure that out? Can you share how you automated this?  I don't know how to create a task to do that.

Perhaps when apoint.exe is started by Windows the first time, there are command line arguments passed to it that cause the problem but when you restart it (without command line arguments) the defaults are used and it works correctly.  Just brainstorming.

I think you may be the only one on the planet that has figured this out.  If you could take five minutes and provide the next level of detail (exactly how you automated this and using which commands) that would be hugely helpful.  We're all in this together.  Thanks in advance.

Create a new batch file under my docments directory; create a new text document then rename the file extention to .bat. You can name the file something like alpstouchpad.bat

Put the below lines in it. First line is just a comment to remind what the purpose of the file.

rem 2016 Lenovo Y70014isk ALPS touchpad cursor doesn't move during keyboard keypress

taskkill /im:apoint.exe /f
"C:\Program Files\Apoint2K\apoint.exe"

exit

And finally create a new task in task scheduler and call the alpstouchpad.bat file upon user logon. Or you can run it manually.

This worked perfectly for me! Thank you so much for taking the time to write it up! The touchpad and keyboard can now be used simultaneously. The one drawback of this approach is that a command window appears to run the script when you log in. It would be nice to find a way to do this invisibly. But I'm happy. Thanks again.
