Fresh install and wipe is the way to go. I'm glad your issue was resolved

Hi mate, it's not possible for installing or uninstalling any software to affect your warranty, you can put whatever OS you want on and no OEM can get out of their responsibilities. Obviously this does not apply to clocking software and such where you are changing the hardware parameters, no OEM should be responsible for you frying your graphics card etc. Here in the UK you are protected by law under consumer rights for things like this, it's just that the OEM doesn't have to provide free support in those instances, but we all know forums and google are a million times better than any support lines!

Re: Y700 black screen

I too have this issue with my Y700.  Here is what I have discovered.  Perhaps others can try it and perhaps if the developers will pay attention it will lead to a cure.

---

I first experienced the issue after adjusting the energy saving settings.  The screen would go dark after the prescibed interval but would not come back on with a key press or mouse movement.  Just the backlight.  The only way to recover was to press the power button and put the computer to sleep.  Then press it again to wake it up.  I updated all the video drivers but the issue was not cured.

I discovered, quite by accident, that changing the screen resolution would reset whatever was causing the problem.  So after fiddling around with whatever screen/energy settings you want, close all that.  Then go directly to control panel / display and change the screen resolution.  It is ok to change it back to your desired resolution before exiting.

It appears that the act of changing the screen resolution is resetting whatever the bug is that causes the computer to lose its ability to turn the screen fully back on after it goes dark.

If you are having this issue, please give this a try and see if it works for you then post your experience here.

I do not think it will help anyone. My PC dead 3 hours ago, 30th day of use. :(

If "dead" means something other than the computer not turning a black screen back on without restarting then I suspect you are correct.

---

FWIW - Make sure you have the latest driver for the Intel HD card.  For some reason, probably windows update, mine once reverted to the August 2015 version after I had updated it to the January 2016 version.  I have since turned automatic driver updates off.

Re: Y700 black screen

I sent one Y700 back - it failed within few days. Now on the second one. Today it failed with the same symptom around a month after I got it. Extremely unlikely to get a lemon twice unless it is a real high percentage of lemons.

Although it is more likely that unhappy people will post to forums, it still should not diminish the frequency of this issue.

And Lenovo's customer service is another disaster story. In around 10 calls and online chats I hardly ever got something reasonable/helpful.

In response to customer reports that Y700-15ISK, Y700-15ISK Touch, and Y700-17ISK laptops do not wake from sleep mode, may unexpectedly reboot, or may show a Yellow Bang, Lenovo has provided a Service TIP.

The Service TIP is available here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht118255
