Y700: flickering/vibrating & backlight bleeding - HELP

2016-07-06, 8:48 AM

Hi all,

1 day old ideapad Y700-15ISK, starts to vibrate/flicker really fast on colors, specially mid tones like gray. Impossible to see, eye-hurting, had to look away each couple of seconds or turn brightness to minimum. This happens still in BIOS!

Went back and forth with both Intel and Nvidia drivers, didn't make any difference.

Did 1 key recovery, got back to factory install, flickers persists but getting better/slowing down. Leave it overnight, flicker is gone, reinstall my own Windows, looking good.

ALSO

Screen backlight bleeding: Really annoying yellow bleed spot on top left side of the screen, and several others smaller around screen, really noticeable if the display is showing dark colors.

What to do? I'm going to be using it for a few days, maybe try to update BIOS, should I ship it back?

thanks in advance.

You can do that.

You can put it out of its missery and shoot it.

All up to you!!!

Most normal people would just send it back and move on to something else. No idea why you still have it as it appears you do.

DOA is just that, back it goes.

if the flickering persisted I would have send it back a while ago, but it went away and is working good so far. about the bleeding I'll see how I live with it and probably give them a call.

just for logging purposes:

This morning the courier should come by and take the machine for a technical service.

I've noticed several spots in the screen borders where the panel backlight scapes through and causes big yellow blobs or spots instead of the expected black, specially noticeable when the screen shows dark colors.

These spots all around the display borders but there are some big ones on the upper limit.

In any case I called to the Ireland support number and the Lenovo service rep was very fast and efficient.

I was told to improve (?) the original packaging when retuning the item by adding bubbles or similar, I've added a piece of mushy fabric, hoping to be enough, since I don't own packaging materials nor intend to buy.

Apart from the display issues, the computer works pretty good, booting up win10 in less than 10sec.

The automatic switch between the intel and nvidia graphic cards is very useful.

The quality of the screen (when no bleeding is noticeable) is just great, but every time windows boots up, I notice the screen goes brighter, as if a filter where applied, I'd like to avoid this...

The keyboard feels solid but a bit small, but having the num keypad is surely a plus.

The face recognition software from win 10 doesn't work properly.

Battery life is very very good, considering.

Temperature is expected from a gaming machine, I own a x240 that goes as hot as this one.

I'm supposed to have my computer back in 10 working days, so we'll see.

I called yesterday to inquire about this, turns out the package is already on its way back (I had no idea, no notification at all). They informed me that the screen was "replaced" and the computer wiped out, and provided me with a working tracking number (I asked for it), so I'll probably receive it tomorrow.
