Re: Y720 Max RAM Speed

Hi Godrilla,

Greetings.

I do not think there would be any option to change speed in the BIOS as it was preset/ intended by default. Having that in mind, modding the BIOS may be able to do it by is not recommended as it poses the risk of bricking the board.

Perhaps it would be better to check on other ways to improve your laptops performance other than the change in frequency of RAM. It's fixed on the BIOS as limitation of the board support for best overall performance set by the engineering team.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Re: Y720 Max RAM Speed

thank you for the reply. i get it there is a reason to limit mhz but i still dont know why. i think 7th gen i7 is powerful enough to handle more than 2400mhz. anyways i bought 2x8 2400mhz CL14 hyperx memory anyways im just curious. Oh and i have 1 more question actually. ok lenovo limits to 2400mhz cuz intel says it should be limited to 2400 too but intel also says 64GB max so whats up with the 32GB limit? anyways you dont actually answer these im talking with myself lol

Re: Y720 Max RAM Speed

Hi Godrilla,

Greetings.

In as much as users like higher frequency (2400MHz more) and supported max ram (more than 32GB), OEM sets their own specifications as per their overall design.

I am sure OEM like to satisfy buyers wanting more but there is still other factors that limit their build to what they legally can support instead in terms of performance and stability. Customizing individual build would surely be costly but a free option to all.

I hope this answers your questions.

Regards

Re: Y720 Max RAM Speed

It is one thing what you think is possible and it's another thing what is acctualy posibile via hardware

I7 7700hq in the best case you have this one is only cappable of using 2400mhz so you put for example as I have 2666mhz Ram ( the original ram that came with the laptop) will only go to 2400mhzAs for capacity again this is all about hardware , your mother board does not support more than 32gb of ram even though the  cpu could use 64gb
