Y740 Keyboard Brightness Level Bug

2020-01-22, 6:01 AM

Do your Y740's save keyboard brightness level after a shutdown? My brand new Y740 maxes up the LED's brightness after a cold start. Usually I keep it at minimum but the system constantly resets my preference. Previously I had a Y730 and that model always kept my set brightness under any circumstances.

This is on the latest and dreaded keyboard update, on an international keyboard layout so, firmware bug that can be fixed, something to do with iCue, my luck?

If you have a solution or the same issue, leave a message here. Thanks.

It may not be a bug. Whenever my Y40 shuts down or starts up, the brightness is also full. But it will come back to the set value after the computer starts up completely. But for that, you have to set your ICue to start up whenever your windows starts

Thanks for your answer, IP_MAN.

I'm to believe it's a bug. The Y730 has the exact same keyboard and it worked perfectly. Set brightness to minimum, do whatever, and shutdown the laptop. Even if you just turned it on again on the next day, it would be like you never left. Set and forget. Very good experience on that regard. On the Y740, when you turn on the laptop, LED's are always maxed, and until our lord and saviour iCue descends from the silicon heavens, we have to endure the spiral of the devil. Even after iCue starts, the LED's will stay at max until user interaction. I pray for the day Lenovo releases a good update once and for all.

Any suggestions regarding the previous version of the firmware? I'm wary of flashing the older version due to compatibility with KB layout. More ideias? Mod the firmware is a way out but yeah, any takers?

Your laptop is brand new, as you have mentioned. So trying any mods will be detrimental. My opinion would be to let it remain as it is, it looks beautiful regardless. Yes, it will consume battery but due to the bad battery life of 740, you're going to keep it plugged in anyway.

Yep, IP_MAN, I know. Meanwhile, I get to trip on a beautiful overdose of RGB.

If someone out there has the Y730 internacional version, has the knowledge to extract or know were i can download the firmware for the keyboard, please, let me know. I'll be around. Thanks!
