Y740 Non Dolby Vision screen replacement

2019-12-17, 8:45 AM

Hello,

Just got myself a second hand Y740 with the non Dolby vision model, is it possible to replace the screen to that of the Dolby vision model?

Thank you.

Hi kingyem!

Welcome to the Community Forums!

We'd like to take a closer look. Could you share the machine type model of your Y740 for us to check its specifications? Eg (81XXXXXXMY).

Looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Jerry_Lenovo

Thank you. Upon checking the LCD Display of your computer which is an FHD IPS (300nits 72%Gamut) it is compatible for Dolby Vision. Did you already check under Windows Settings if HDR is enabled? Here's a guide from Microsoft on how to : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4040263/windows-10-hdr-advanced-color-settings.

Source to get the exact LCD display : https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/legion-series/legion-y740-15ichg/81he/81he007emj/parts/display/model

Re: Y740 Non Dolby Vision screen replacement

I have enabled HDR video streaming in Windows settings but when i tried to play Dolby Vision content from Netflix, I get a message stating that the laptop is not Dolby Vision authorized and to uninstall the Dolby Vision app.

For the source to get the exact LCD display, the link says there are 2 substitutes but upon expanding the link, there were only 300 nits models, does that mean the model is incompatible with the refresh Y740's LCD panel even though its only a refresh? I would assume that only the 500 nits model has the Dolby Vision chip embedded?

Hello Jerry,

I just read on the Thinkpad subforum that the problem of Dolby Vision not authorized on a device that is supposed to be authorized is due to :

"I found out that a new driver will fix this issue but the release date is not clear yet.  The problem happened when BIOS changed System Family from "ThinkPad P1 Gen2" to "ThinkPad P2 Gen 2" (added a space).  The driver has not been updated yet, so then this problem happens.  Sorry for this trouble.

Following .zip file contains updated color profiles with the correct System Family strings.  According to Dolby guy, "Users can assign them as standard color profiles under ‘use my own settings’ as a short term fix."  Based on your previous reply, I guess you need the one that starts with TPLCD_4180_

Hope this helps, let me know how it goes." -someotherguy (lenovo staff)

Can you please confirm if the issue is the same for the Y740?And if yes, where can i get the icc file needed?

Hello Jerry,

Can you confirm whether or not the screen of the 500nits model can be used on the 300nits model?

The support page for my model of Y740 did not list it but I would prefer a direct answer instead. Sorry to trouble you during this holiday season.

Thank you.
