Y740 - Will upgrading storage void warranty?

2019-07-24, 5:43 AM

Hi all,

I have the Lenovo Y740 15 inch (Y740-15ICHg) with a 1TB HDD which the laptop came with. I am thinking about upgrading to a 1TB Samsung SSD. Will upgrading on my own void the warranty? I purchased the extended warranty with accidental protection, and I'm also located in Canada. The upgrade seems straightforward, but in the maintenance manual, storage is not considered to be a CRU (customer-replacable unit). I just want to make sure it won't void the warranty.

Thanks

It should not void the warranty. Just keep the old HDD so that you can put it back in case you run into some problems in the future.

Okay, good to know. It'll be nice if someone who works for Lenovo can answer this question so I can have it documented and not worry about voiding my warranty (in case it's an issue in the future).
