legion 5i screen replacement

2020-07-16, 2:49 AM

Hi everyone,

So I bought the lenovo legion 5i last mont at Bestbuy. The laptop was on sale for $950 with 10750h, 512GB samsung pm981a ssd and samsung b-die ram. It is a pretty good deal but there is a downside that the screen is 45% NTSC, 250 nits 120hz. The model number is NV156FHM-NX1 (40 pin). It is a really bad screen. So after I added another 8 GB ram (For performance use the exactly same ram in the laptop), I started to see if I can replace the screen.

After researching online I found the screen that I want to replace. It is NV156FHM-N4J which is top of the line 500 nits dolby gsync screen in Legion 7i. I bought it on laptopscreen.com but they send me the NV156FHM-N4G which is hmm acceptable. 300 nits and 144hz 72 NTSC is a solid upgrade from the original one. Here are some pictures how I replace the screen. There are tutorial on youtube like (Y540 Y530 screen replacement).

!!!!This will void the screen warrenty. But I am pretty sure you can still get covered for the motherboard and chipset.

How did you know that the screen replacement was compatible prior to ordering it?

Thanks for confirming. I'll be doing the exact same as soon as I receive the Legion 5 (120hz).   Still a lot cheaper than buying the one with the upgraded screen.  Its the 250 nits of that 120hz that is really unacceptable.

Any info about how to find the correct screen?  I am going to be buying the Legion 5i model number 82AU00CXUS.  I assume its the same screen model number as here.  Also I don't see nits listed anywhere on Laptopscreen.com  Where do you find out how many nits the replacement has.
