lenovo legion y520 gaming laptop game stutter after bios update

2020-10-06, 20:48 PM

hi!

I updated my legion y520 bios from version 4kcn30ww to 4kcn45ww, right after the update I played games like call of duty black ops 3 and Rainbow six siege, and both of them started stuttering for no reason, I even tried to completely format my pc but that didn't fix it, I figured that it must be the new bios that has caused this so I want to revert back to the original bios version 4kcn30ww but I cant find the link for its download anywhere, can someone help me out please by either telling me another solution or sending me a download link for the 4kcn30ww version?

Any help will be appreciated, thank you!

Heya,

Here's a tip I picked up from elsewhere on these forums - you can just replace the file in the URL to try and download an older version. e.g.

This looks like the download page for your BIOS:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/legion-series/legion-y520-15ikbn/downloads/ds121057

The link to the file on that page is this:

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/4kcn45ww.exe

If you change that link to the name of the file you want, you can probably download an older version:

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/4kcn30ww.exe

EDIT - sadly doesn't seem to work for that one! Maybe too old...

Oldest I can find is this one:

https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/4kcn40ww.exe

But you should be able to get things working on the latest BIOS.

Are you playing on the laptop screen or an external monitor?

Is Vsync and/or Gsync enabled? (Try turning them on/off).

What BIOS options do you have that are related to graphics that might have changed?

thank you, you are a hero! I was able to revert back to 4kcn40ww and tried rainbow 6 siege and payday 2 and so far no stuttering!!! now I can finally play games without constant stuttering!!!

can you tell me how you got those links??? a friend of mine will need it in case his bios update (of his legion y720) will end up giving his pc stuttering like mine did.

Thank you!

Yay! Glad it helped!

I read elsewhere on the forum that you can just change the URL to an older version, so hopefully my explanation in my first post is sufficient.

i.e.

Find the latest BIOS page.

Right-click the download link and "copy link".

Paste that into a browser and just change the number to a previous version.

If the file exists, it will download, otherwise it will say 404 or Page Not Found, so just keep trying different (lower) numbers until you get a download.

No, I don't really expect any changes when I update a BIOS.

They're usually just minor fixes that shouldn't be noticed by the user.

Advanced users often find problems though - i.e. they lose options they used to have or any mods they may have done themselves!

Can you please tell me how to downgrade bios, because once I tried to it with the older version it shows an error "The version of ROM file is not newer than that of bios"

sorry for the late late reply I wasn't aware.

to fix that you must go into your bios, then find and enable "enable bios flashback" because its disabled by default.

this fixed it for me
